We moved into Avalon in November and it's been a great experience. We live on the top floor, so I don't know about hearing people above us, but we do have neighbors on all sides of us and it's fine. Sometimes you can hear them laughing and playing music from the hallways, but not once you're in your apartment. I think a lot of these people who complain about noise and service, etc. are 'fancy' people who think they're living in the Ritz-Carlton. Give me a break!
Of course there will be noise in an apartment building. If you want total peace and quiet, move to a farmhouse in Frederick. Anyway, the maintenence people and leasing agents are really nice and accomadating. It may be hard to find one in their office since they are always so busy with potential clients, but you don't have to wait long for one. Thats what the nice lounge, TV, coffee, iced tea, and cookies are for. The apartment building has community gatherings, which is really nice. The last one was for St. Patricks Day, where they had all the food you could eat (really good food), open bar, and prizes. It's really nice to meet people in your apartment this way. The pool will be open soon, too!! The location is GREAT, especially for those who work or go out in DC and don't want to deal with driving. How nice is it to just stroll out of your apartment building, walk down a brick sidewalk and step right onto the metro'' I highly recommend this apartment building. It's great to live in an apartment that's never been occupied before. The construction of the other buildings is almost done, it's pretty cool to see how far they advance every day.
