This will be my last review of this place. The only thing that has changed since I've lived here is that the rent has gone up 200 dollars a month. Not a small feat when a 1 bedroom goes for 1600-2000 a month already. So, when houses are going for 1200-1600 with outstretched hands, these guys seem to have other plans. It seems the county mandates that they raise rent by at least 8%. I've been to Soviet Russia. Didn't like it much. So, no problemo. There's a solution to that too. I'm moving out of the state.
But pricing aside(which is a huge issue here), the organizational skills of the company have not improved. The gates are broken daily. Memos from management say that people are getting equipment stolen out of their cars, and that they can't protect us from anything whatsoever. A metro train passes by 20 feet away every 5 minutes, and when living in a apartment constructed by spanish speaking only labor, it's like living in a paper hut. And every time I walk into the rental office I hear them talking to another tenant about their car being stolen/towed from their own parking space. It's simple to fix, and ridiculous to endure. I moved here for some reason, although I can't remember why exactly.
OK, so on to the plus side, I haven't had my car towed out of my own parking place for a while now. That's honestly an improvement. I like waking up and getting ready to go to work, and having my car there. They used to tow me regularly for parking at my own apartment. Now I guess they are towing other people, since they now recognize me and my car.
I also haven't been sent to court for somebody else not paying rent, nor have I seen warrants for arrest on people's doors near me(Update- court orders taped up to 2 tenants on my floor last week). I used to see our tenants getting court orders taped to their mailboxes and doors regularly because these people(Avalon) are completely insane. But not so much these days. Maybe everyone left. Actually, I am seeing alot of people moving out. Maybe the management has tried to "manage". Not sure. But that's another positive- at least for me.
On the down side, these broken down, bug infested, mexican labor built, paper machete apartments aren't worth the location. You will pay less to rent an apartment 1 block from work(if you work in DC), even if you live next to the White House. I'm not kidding.
The management are outwardly friendly, but kind of miss the part of making your life easier. Say the automatic rent payment for instance(via the IntarWeb- thanks Al Gore). That hasn't worked since I've been here. And I gave up trying to find a window where they let you enroll. They have specific months of the year when they can let you pay them. It's very interesting, and moronic. It's a real problem when you get a court date for being a day late on rent, so I just paid all my rent off at once, and will be leaving after the lease is up.
I have been renting all my life in various states, and I have to say that this complex is probably the second worst place I've ever lived in my life. The worst place I've ever been is a rathole in metro Richmond with albino crackheads and black football player looking transvestites. But at least you got what you paid for there. Not here. Adios extranjeros ilegales! I'm outta here folks. Hope the door hits me in a ass on the way out.
