Fair -- Not a Luxury Complex as Advertised

Briarwood touts itself as a luxury community. It's not. I think they use the term "luxury" to justify high rent prices.
Management has changed several times while I have lived here, but I haven't noticed any problems with that. My interactions with office staff have been okay.
The neighborhood seems to be changing for the worse. There have been several murders in the area in the past year. There was a murder in the complex in July 2002. It was reported by local news stations that Briarwood had rented apartments to an unlicensed care facility for mentally challenged men. A live-in caretaker was murdered,in the apartment, by one of the men. Scary!
There is keyed access to each building, which is nice. Also, for deliveries and visitors, one must call the apartment from a call box to be buzzed into the building. This is a nice feature.
Walls seem thin and ceilings, too. I can hear my upstairs neighbor walking around all the time. Lots of creaky floors. I sometimes hear a neighbor's dog barking through the walls.
Appliances in the kitchen are nice. W/D are included -- a plus. The fireplace is a waste. It always sets off the smoke detectors. Office staff told me that it was new, and that once the new burned off it would stop. After two winters, it still sets off the smoke detectors.
The pool is only open during office hours, which is goofy. They are very strict about visitors to the pool, and limit this number.
One of the nice features is being able to pay my rent online.
Overall, it's a so-so place to live. There are nicer complexes, with better views, just down the street. There are very few wooded views here. New apartments are going up around the corner.
