Had I known about this website earlier, I would have warned prospective renters a long time ago! I lived fairly peacefully at Morningside Heights for 6 years. I kept to myself so I didn't notice the neighborhood crime wave. My personal nightmare began in may 2003. As I was leavign for work one morning I noticed scratches on my car. I thought maybe kids playing had acidentally done it. I didn't check all sides of the car until I got to work. There I discovered it was no accident as the car apparently was keyes all the way around. With no proof of anything, I was upset but felt helpless. A few days later a newly purchased tire was flattened. The really scary part came when I was leaving home one evening and found an anonymous note on my car saying "Don't park next to my car!" I immediately contacted management, they referred me to the police. I made out a police report. I then asked to break my lease which was ending 07/31. Management felt I had no reason to want to leave. Their only concession was to move to another property they owned. If they felt no duty to protect me at Morningside why should I trust them somewhere else' DO NOT MOVE TO THIS PROPERTY IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A SECURE PLACE TO LIVE!

You forgot to mention the apartment fire on Strawhat in 2000? Caused by faulty outlets and a broken fire extinguisher. But I agree with you. My car was vandalized on more than one occassion as well.
