If you like your life...do NOT live here....

My roommate and I were renting an apartment because it was cheaper than living on campus at our school and did not have much of a choice on location. I wish we did because we would have NEVER moved here. We were held by gun-point by 2 men in masks and robbed in our own apartment building. The police had helicopters and K9 units out and never found them. The police told us that this happens almost daily at that complex. One police officer told us to "get the hell out of here as soon as you possibly can." We moved out that night...

I don't doubt this happened. I saw cops in the parking lot daily when I lived there, and anything I can do to keep people OUT of this complex, I will do!

I also doubt this happened. I got along great with my neighbors, people weren't hanging around outside at all hours. It wasn't a bad place to live.

Give me a break, Penguin! I lived right off of the main drag, and my front door faced that road. I saw young men in gang attire walking up the street past my apartment DAILY. One time, I looked up after opening my door, and I just happened to lock eyes with one of these guys. He stared me down with a look on his face that sent a chill up my spine. I lived at MSH for 9 years, and I saw it go from a borderline nice community to a ghetto over those years. Three buildings caught on fire, and like I said, the gangs are everywhere now. Not to mentions millions of bugs in the summer, grasshoppers marching in lock-step in the winter, regular flooding of poo-poo water from upstairs, loud stereos, kids running and jumping, and icy sidewalks in the winter. I bought a gun while I was living there. That's how scared I was. You couldn't pay me enough to live there now!

Can I ask what streets and bldgs you guys live on? I think it just comes down to building location and your neighbors. I have lived in Morningside in the middle of Straw Hat for 3 years and never had a substantial problem. When I call maintenance- they COME almost immediately- down to even coming in and replacing my entire toilet at 3 AM on a Saturday morning.
My building is one of the older ones that have been remodeled I believe as I have newer light fixtures and upgraded doors and such. Ive never had a problem with the office staff- they've always been very nice to me and even fun to talk to. I've been late on my rent 3 times since I've lived here including one time recently when I was 25 days late- have yet for them to even send me one of those little court notices.
But like I said- it may come down to the luck of the draw with the building and neighbors you have. I notice that Mon-Fri when I leave my bldg at 9 AM, there are only 1-3 cars on the lot down from about 45 which indicates to me that all of my neighbors WORK. Most times its almost an eerie silence in my area except on the weekends when I may hear a few neighbors playing music late (totally understandable.) My neighbors are nice- I know most of them by face, car and many by name.
I live in the apts facing the tennis courts and with the woods on the back end and I have YET to see or hear about an issue with crime in my part of the complex. I frequently come home late at night and notice that there is NOBODY outside so I can safely say I don't have an issue with "seedy characters" hanging around. I may have just lucked up, but what I will say is that for the money I pay- I've been rather happy with the product. However- I will say, I have noticed the area in the middle of the development across from the rental office looks a little "interesting." I wouldnt want to live in that area though.
Sorry youre experience was so bad though.

I lived on willow bend and the building had BED BUGS .My neighbor next door and the two down stairs, were infested.I got a letter on my door the night before an extreminator was to come to my apartment to spray. My daughter was 4 mths at the time. I did not have the bugs "thank heavens".But dealing with teens in the hallways was a daily problem. The rental office did little or nothing about this problem. Now let's talk about how they would loose your money orders untill you show up pissed and then suddenly have them on file after they file a latness against you. STAY AWAY it's smoke and mirrors at morning side.
