My wife and I lived in Owings Run Apartments from December 2007 through August 2008. We were told upon move in that the broken kitchen window and extremely noisey washing machine would be fixed. We filled out a maintenance request form and did not get a response.
Several times after paying rent on time we recieved eviction notices because the receptionist had misplaced the check.
We communicated with the employees at the leasing office about our intent to purchase a home and move out. We extended our lease several months while we were looking for a home. After finding a home we went to the leasing office to make sure it would be ok to move out on a certain date and were told it would be fine. After moving out we recieved a bill for over $2000 as a "lease break fee". After talking to the Manager we found that they had rented the apartment out 9 days after we moved out so it was illegal to charge more than a full months rent. They dropped the fee to just over $700 which I eventually paid.
The corporate office did not respond to inquiry about the lease break fee and neither did the lease office manager.
I do not recommend renting from Owings Run Apartments or and Home Properties Inc. community.

Unfortunately, buying a home isnt included in the pledge as a right to break your contract/lease
