Prospective Resident Inquiring About Safety

I am a current Grad Student as well as my fiance. We are looking in the Fort Washington / Oxon Hill area for a comfortable apartment thats a-typical of many of the apartments in this area (i.e. no loitering, low / no crime element, etc.) After reading many of these reviews this seems to be an ideal place for us until we buy our home in a year or so. From a man's point of view I can handle myself (6'1 220 400 bench press), however my primary concern is for my Queen if our school / work schedules contrast. There's no definitive guarantee that she'll be safe in the event that she came home by herself at night but let's be honest, some crimes (assaults, robberies) are more indicative of certain areas than others. If any current / former residents can lend some insight on this inquiry it would be greatly appreciated. Once again, I realize that no area is completely devoid of crime, however, if this is a place that many can feel comfortable, I'm willing to take my chances.

Yes, I agree with the above poster; parking is pretty bad. You will be so far away from your building entrance. As you stated crime is everywhere and I just feel as a female you're going to be targeted for violent crimes - in the event you have to walk a quarter of a mile to your building entrance - alone. However, the complex is good. In my 2years there I have never heard of any violent crimes, but that doesn't mean that it's untouchable. The building I resided in everyone was respectful of each other. The apartments could use some updating. Things broke or wasn't functioning properly quite often because they were aged.
To sum all this up: I would look elsewhere if your fiance will be coming home after dark alone frequently, or if the thought of carrying groceries a quarter of a mile to your front door tires you. Oh yeah, and the towing company makes their living off of this complex alone. Before making a final decision, I would look at some other options as well. Brinkley House & Brinkley Manor are nice. (I lived there in the past and I am currently residing there again now)Also Westwood Place in Ft. Washington, MD gets rave reviews from a family member of mines that resides there. Unfortunately, in this area your options are limited.
Good Luck!

The parking there is the worst, if you are lucky you will be only 1 football field away from your car. My car was towed twice for no reason, when I stayed here they has some crappy stickers that would fall out the window and your car would get towed and when you complained management wouldn't do anything.

Well, as all have mentioned-parking is a huge issue. I was towed once because of the silly "parking" sticker rolled away from the window. Although the sticker was there-with some effort,it could be seen by (it was not visible was the excuse that the towing people gave me.
I was approached by a homicide investigator with questions about a murder that happened not too far behind our building.
I would often find kids skipping school just hanging out in the building-smoking weed and loitering. Many of my neighbors vehichles were either stolen or their cars were stipped (tires taken).
I would definitely reconsider this as an option for living accomodations.
