brenbrook really needs to clean up their act

I would like to briefly comment on the nine items below.
I recently moved from the Brenbrook apartments after living there for over five years and in that time not only was the rent increased $20.00 each year but the company had been sold three times. Each time it seemed like the owners only wanted to increase the rent without doing proper repairs.
Before Quest management took over, the office staff was a pleasure to deal with, being helpful, friendly and courteous. Now it's almost impossible to have a conversation with the staff without it turning into a shouting match. (They get so defensive and quick to point out your errors)the parking is truly a nightmare, the residents have no respect for the reserved parking for people with disabilities. People with disabilities have had their cars parked in the spots every day, 24/7 365. A couple of times they forgot to hang up their placards and management had the cars towed knowing it is the same car they saw the other day with one. While other people who have no reasons for parking in these spots are able to park there all night without getting towed.
The noise level at times, is unacceptable. The parents do not control their children. They run in and out, stomping on the stairs. They bounced balls in the hallways and off the walls in their apartments which causes damage to cars i.e. sitting on cars that do not belong to their family, scratching paint, ripping off side mirrors, placing sharp objects so cars may run over them and damage tires. I am not that concerned with the outside appearance. The problems and concerns that I've had within the development are more pressing.
Only the first few years of living at brenbrook did I feel safe. After the second owners, I felt the complex was heading in a downward spiral. There is no security door. Anyone is able to, and at times have walked in from outside waiting in the vestibule on all floors. Home depot moved cross the street, before they came there was a large street light which laminated the entire front of our residence. Once they came in, the beam of light no longer reflects on the apartment building, but now only Home Depots outside products.
Tenants lurk in the shadows watching as you enter/leave your residence. What an eerie feeling to know you are being watched from the shadows.
Tenants whose electric has been turned off for nonpayment will run an extension cord from the laundry to their apartment. Not only do you worry if a space heater is on/will it start a fire, but be careful when going down the steps so you won??t trip over the cord.
I had to (I am assuming others did as well) sign a drug contract (no selling, no buying, no using).. but at the same time there were at least 3 drug dealers on primessis, one which lived in my very building.
How risky is this'
This building is over fifty years old, in my apartment the walls had cracks from settling, and NONE of the door was cut level with gaps over two inches from the door to the floor. there were only some screens on the windows and no storm windows (the only thing stopping the elements was the sliding glass doors/window(s). No insulation, my bathroom in the summer was eighty degrees and in the winter it was twenty. Each time before a showered I would have to run the hot water to get the bathroom warm in order to take the shower. The fixtures seemed cheap because several times the fixtures would break off in my hand.
At one time there was a really friendly maintenance man working there. He was great and did great work. Now he no longer works there and the other one..well lets just say he is not as good.
I reported my stove was not level (there seems to be a real big problem with thing being level in this complex) there was a large hole in the floor; I did not know what to expect, however, i did not expect a slab of wood to be placed over the hole. Now instead of the stove leaning to the left, it leans to the right. I reported there was something wrong with my toilet, constant running and would not fill properly. The ball was replaced, even though the ball was connected to a rusted broken chain, clearly visible by anyone with 20/20, the maintance person only replaced the ball; because the chain was not replaced or repaired the toilet continued to run and not fill properly.
As I stated above the management to be more customer friendly.
I hope that this is not the worst place; I would feel terrible to know I had sunk that low.
I have my own business now; I am realizing many things from being a tenant at brenbrook, such as you need to spend money to make money. You can not buy a place raise the rent and make no changes (the few changes you do make is that the expense of your tenants/customers) keep your tenants/customers be happy, this is how you make your money,, they are not happy or to fail to reasonably make them happy they will go some place else, like the tenants are doing now. Your reliable customers/tenants I have found will be loyal if you treat them with respect and intelligence. When you are sincere and courteous you get a better response and people are more willing to listen and possibly except your view or least think about it.
I can also understand your position; with rising fuel costs it is not easy or cost effective to pay the complex heating/hot water bills. However, I think it was poor judgment to go with an obscure company when all tenants are familiar with the states electric company. Or give them the option to go with someone else instead of forcing an unknown company on them out of state.
The meeting that was held on this subject was a complete joke. Nothing was resolved and it was nothing more than a shouting match between management and tenants with EVERYONE losing!
