I considered living there but, was really turned off by the vibe I received while visiting the property. When I walked in the rental offices I was greated by the staff Olja and MyKeisha but, they werent warm and fussy.. Mykeisha didnt even smile and looked like she hated her joband herself . Olja was "phoney" she wasnt personable at all but, tried her best to mock what she thought was professional (#%$# please) .. I went to look at the apartments model with my mother and father who is a BC police detective... the very first thing that stricked me as odd was the patrol, and state troopers car that sat in view as you drove up to the rental office.. when Olja was questioned by my mom why they had security... Olja's replay was a LAMEeeeeee one... "Bc if a resident is playing their music loud the security can go tell them to cut it down... (untrue security has no authority to tell any resident to do anything bc they arent the police)... she also continued to say they have security b/c they arent a gated community... which, was also LAME... she told my mother.. when asked.. that they didnt have security b/c of crime...although the other posting have told me different... i VIEWED THE APPARTMENT... and wasnt impressed b/c it was very small...If things couldnt rube me the wrong way anymore.. we went back to the office were she wrote down a list of things I would need in order to be considered... 100 dollar holding fee(NEVER HEARD OF IT) 25 DOLLAR APP FEE(COOL) AND LAST BUT, NOT LEAST "IT IS MANDATORY THAT ALL RENTERS HAVE RENTAL INS( WTF)!!!!! That was a major red flag!!!!! When asked why ... she said b/c it protects you and your stuff...WHY B/C THEY HAVE MANY MANY BREAK-INS ON A DAILY BASIS!!! OMG OMG... dont freakin do it... or do it knowing something bad WILL happen... this place should be shunt down!!!

I worked at Owings Manor for almost 17 years before transferring to another property in Towson. Back then, OM was a very nice property with alot of potential. Under the right circumstances; it still does. It needs a caring office staff that REALLY does care about their potential residents and by all means, this also applies to the maintenance staff. In my opinion; there's no reason a work order shouldn't be completed in no more than 24 hours. As for renters insurance; It should ABSOLUTELY be mandatory that EVERY resident have it. If there's a fire; the management company iss NOT responsible for ANY of your PERSONAL belongings. I have renter's insurance and for the small amount it costs to have it; ($100 per year or LESS), you can't afford to not have it. Owings Manor will ALWAYS be special to me, I hope someday a management company acquires it and makes it what I know itt can be.

This is either a fake review or someone who is really stupid. First of all,security CAN tell someone to turn music down. IF they work for the community. (which they do..they are on POC's payroll) Its the same thing as the property manager doing it.
Every place I have worked has asked for a holding fee. Whether its 50 dollars, 100 dollars, or 150 dollars its a "good faith" deposit. They are taking an apartment off the market for you. Basically, it covers their ass if you cancel. Sometimes its refundable, sometimes its not.
Renters insurance is requried at a lot of places, but not all. You would be an idiot NOT to get it. Would you drive without car insurance? Get a home without home owners insurance? No. Becauase its against the law for one, but for two, it protects. A place that requires it is protecting YOUR ass if anything happens (flood, fire, break-in, damages from wind, termites, lightening, explosions, and about a million little things that happen EVERYDAY to people) Aparently you are still a child (your looking with your parents which says you are probably no older than 20) and should not get a place of your own if you do not know these things....my god...stay with mommy and daddy a bit longer. Oh and learn to spell.... |

I"m not going to knock the girl for going with her parents. Ease up. It's a learning experience. geez Anyway, I have never worked for a management company of a housing complex. I have lived here in the past. From MY experience as far as the security was concerned they were there as a deterring presence. Occasionally, there was a note left on a car or two saying don't park there. I did not experience any break-ins. However, I have been encouraged to get renters insurance in the last 3 places I have been. I am surprised you said the apartment you viewed was small. One of the reasons that I picked this community was that I received a decent amount of space for the amount of money they were asking for. (Maybe their prices have changed) This was back in 2006. Anyway, to each his own and if it was not to your standards than thats that. I have heard that the community has gone down since I lived there so listen to your gut. I have heard of holding fees and application fees. Never heard of them making renters insurance mandatory. Didn't have that a couple of years ago. I wonder if that is legal? I am sure you will see while visiting other communities that things can be alot worse and although these things can be an issue FOR YOU I wouldn't deem this as a place that should be shut down. Even from your own conclusion should they be shut down because they have security and the apartment was not as big as you like it? WOW Check out some of those molded, roach and rat infected, ceiling drippin, crack head communities then say that. Hope you find exactly what you are looking for. DONT GET MAD AT ME B/C WHERE YOU LIVE IS GUTTER TRASH... THE PRICE OF THE APARTMENTS TELL IT ALL!!! THE ONLY REASON Y YALL DONT SEE A PROBLEM WITH THE GHETTO APARTMENTS IS BECAUSE YOUR GHETTO YOURSELF AND YOU COME FROM NOTHING!!! GO BACK TO THE CITY AND LEAVE THE COUNTY ALONE!!!!
