Okay so we've been here at Decoverly since Nov 2008 and haven't really had anything bad to say about the place. We've chosen to live on the new side, rather than the older side and have no regrets about doing so.
BACKGROUND:
We came from San Diego, CA and did most of our research online through various apartment listing websites. Decoverly was one of 6 areas that had what we were looking for: Newer appliances, modern looking, close to the freeway but still far enough away from the noise, wash/dryer in unit, size of the unit, parking and still close enough to work.
THE TOUR:
We were first shown the older section as it was cheaper, but we were not too impressed. Looked like it was from the 70's/80's (cabinets, fixtures, appliances) but it did have that old charm feel with the exterior (brick walls, mature landscaping) and it was close to the on-site amenities (leasing office, pool, fitness room, basketball/tennis courts, car wash area).
We then saw the new section, which has the model unit, it is also located a street away from the main apartment complex. Interior was very impressive since it was built in 2002. New appliances, counters, cabinets, ac unit, crown molding, blinds, etc.
THE APARTMENT WE CHOSE:
The new section. The area we live at has enough parking even in the evenings and on weekends. It might not be directly in front of your unit but there is still parking that is within a minute walk. There's an old red farm house, open fields, a running stream and pond with geese in the back. On occasion you'll even see some deer going by. Its all quite peaceful.
Within a 5 miles radius there are 5 mini shopping areas (7-11, food places, CVS, Grocery stores, etc). There's even a mini outdoor mall across the farm field called The Washingtonian... Has Target, clothing stores, restaurants, AMC movie theater and a Vet for you pet (Negola's Ark).
WEATHER:
Winter was cold. We were warned about the high cost of electricity and gas. Plan on spending $150 electricity & $80 gas, that's with minimal running of the heater and at 72 degrees. It snowed... there's a snow plow truck that came through the parking lot and the streets to get to the main road/freeway was a snow route so it was always clear. Be careful of black ice. The maintenance people salt the sidewalks to keep it from getting icy and super slipper... it worked most of the time.
March/April bill with running the ac a few times was in the $50 range (quite a difference). It rained quite frequently... guess that's why the area is so green. We've had to run the AC a few times but with the large windows it helped keep cost down so far... Was told it's extremely humid in the summer... so I'm sure our monthly bill will be going up again soon. Our agent from the leasing office, fore warned us to expect to pay about $250 for (electricity & gas) in the cold winter and hot summer. That helped us to limit our use, rather than go crazy with the heater/AC unit.
NOISE:
Pretty quiet where we live, walls are thin... but not super thin that you can hear everything going on next, below or above you. Might hear someone yelling, stomping on the ground, loud music, washing machine ( but it's all muffled sounds)...that's pretty much it. You're not allowed to run the dishwash, washer, dryer or play loud electronics after 11PM or before 8AM. Haven't really hear any annoying dog barking or kids screaming.
THE GROUNDS:
Maintenance people come around daily to pick up rubbish and check the recycling area, trash area and doggy poop bins. There's always baggies to pick up after your dog. Ground are well kept, good lighting and no crime that I'm aware of.
OVERALL:
Overall this place has been great. Really no complaints. If you have maintenance issues on your unit, you just email it in from their website and the problem is taken care of within a day. There's also an emergency number for can't wait problems. Oh, forgot to mention. The leasing office will take any packages from the mail carrier, FedEX, UPS... so you can just pick it up from the office when convenient for you.

This is a well detailed post and I thank you, the only thing left for me is to visit the community. Any problems from unwanted friends (mice, roaches, bugs etc)? It sounds like overall its not a bad place to live. Thank you for the info regarding electric, gas etc since where I live, water, sewer & trash is included in my rent.!!
