A class action lawsuit will force them to modify the contract

They don't allow a husband, wife and baby in a 1 bedroom apartment they charge $1400 a month for.

They require you to give 60 day notice instead of 30 after the leasing contract expires( many people cannot secure and hold a place for 60 days). I think they put this lengthy notice requirement to squeeze money out of good customers. Most apartment complex require 30 days.

They charge for normal wear and tear and almost always keep the deposit,--note most corporately managed apartments give back the deposit with interest.

They messed up my credit for moving out when I paid all months rent on time and paid for 30 days after lease expired.

I'm willing to bring a class action lawsuit against them. If you are onboard reply to post.

We received similar treatment and are complaining to the City of Rockville. See http://www.rockvillemd.gov/residents/police/code-enforce.htm for additional info about where to complain. The landlord-tenant complaint form is at http://www.rockvillemd.gov/residents/code-enforcement/landl If you want to contact us, please do so at mcschnel@yahoo.com.

I contacted the city of rockville, and occupancy rules apply to all apartment communities in the area. 2 people for a 1 bedroom and 2 for a 2 bedroom. 60 days notice to vacate is also what the city recommends and of the 13 communities i called every single one of them require the same thing. I also found out they are required to give interest on the deposit, but of course it depends on the condition of the apartment when you leave. I do have two questions though, how do you know they ALWAYS keep the deposit? And what is the status of your class action lawsuit? please reply

I agree with the post above. You may not like it but 60 days notice is standard now. 2 people max to a one bedroom, a child is classed a person (check the landlord tenant handbook online through City of Rockville). As for the deposit, I guess that depends on you and the condition of your apartment.

i just moved in on may 30 and my particular apartment at has been having problems since i moved in. they refused to let me see it when i signed the lease and of course by the time it was available to see, it was 2 days before my move in date! it was a nightmare to move into since they don't have service elevators and the "loading dock" has barriers erected and slopes like a crater before the door so that things fall off the carts (they don't provide any moving equipment either). the bathroom floor has stains on it that makes it look permanently dirty whatever i do. the faucets don't mix hot and cold water in the shower so can't have a decent shower without feeling hot and cold separately. the faucets are on the wrong side of the tub (the "floor plan" indicates it's on the other side of the tub) which makes it an acrobatic event to get into the tub (since the other half of the tub is blocked by the vanity) without wading thru a wall of water. the trash can outside stinks all the time. terrible place. yes the staff are responsive to complaints but then there are complaints all the time with something going wrong almost everyday so i guess they are used to it!
