This place stinks!

Literally this place stinks! For months now the building has been overwhelmed with a sewer smell. It is always present. If you come to rent, you will smell it in the lobby. Just ask them about it and see what lie spews from their mouth. If they say it is rare event, just mention this review. My impression is it must be a design flaw in the structure that they cannot fix. Apparently it is tied to the heating system if it is cold outside, it stinks in here. The office is certainly aware of the problem but they try to ignore the problem or blame others. I cannot get the taste out of my mouth it permeates throughout my apartment. Several of the tenants are petitioning the health department to investigate inhaling this crap has to be bad.

Another joy of living here are the constant fire alarms . On average you get 3-to-4 a month. And trust me, they never happen at convenient times. Each apartment has 1-2 squealing alarms mounted on the walls including one in your bedroom. Just imagine being awakened by a loud squeal in the middle of the night and this occurs about once a month. Apparently the alarm system is hooked into the restaurants and parking garages. Most residents do not even bother going outside anymore.

As another reviewer mentioned, they are renting apartments out to college student interns. So every couple months a hundred or so new students move in and, as the reviewer said, you get all the joys of college dormitory living.

I will also confirm, these apartments have half-sized water heaters. Hence, they do not even fill up the tub. Also, maintenance can be slow as they only have one person. Most other places of similar size have 3-4 people.

In summary, the apartments are appealing when you look at them, but there are serious design flaws, which will make you miserable. Management is very unresponsive to the problems and only offer excuses and lies to their failings. My advice, rent elsewhere something easily confirmed by the other reviews.

Is it really that bad? I was just looking at Fenestra this week. I couldn't smell anything. So some crime, bad smell, and college kids?

My suggestion is to ask the management about the smell reported in this review then determine if you believe them or not. If you move in - and it turns out they lied, remember to report it here.

Just an update. In the two weeks since I wrote this the fire alarms have gone off three times. One evening, they were unable to shut them off for over an hour. You were allowed to return to your apartment if you could tolerate the noise. The most recent is right now - Super Bowl Sunday. You can not have friends or family visit, because the place will either stink or you will have the loud shrill of the fire alarms. I have tried to discuss the problems with the office, but as many other reviews have stated the staff is rude and ignorant. My advice is to avoid this place like the plague.
