A bad choice for honest people

Years at this apartment: 1998 - 2003
I lived at Village Square West for 4 years. Always paid rent on time. Never any complaints against us. My company had to transfer me on a dime mind you, we were not in a lease, but a month to month arrangement with Kay Management.
I went to the office and received from the Assistant Mgr release from the two month lead time for moving out. I gave them 1 and one half month. I paid, I left.
I got a call on moving day that we were in violation of the terms of the lease. They threatened to hit my credit report (I work for a bank ! you do NOT want something like this on your CR). Though I showed proof that I had been released by the Assistant Mgr, because I gave them a letter that spelled out the exact circumstances including the date, they backcharged me one month rent and did not find the Asst Mgr complicit at all, her release had meant nothing. (She still works there as far as I know)
They will burn you.
