A difficult place to live

For nearly 30 years I've been renting in a broad geographical area that stretches from Boston to Maryland, and in no previous tenancy have I ever encountered a rental office that issues as many memos -- absurd, preposterous and in some cases outrageous -- memos as this one does. (Here's a nod to earlier posters. You are so right.) "Take down your Christmas decorations!" "Don't put bikes on your balcony!" "Don't use your balcony as a storage bin!" "Don't put stuff outside your door in the hallway!"

What are we, first-graders' And who's paying to live here, anyway'

In one of the most egregious examples, after the office inexplicably and without warning removed a large number of Dumpsters from the property -- thereby forcing many tenants to walk the equivalent of several city blocks to access a remaining Dumpster, or put their trash into their car (yuck!) and drive it to the closest Dumpster -- it issued (and continues to issue) still more memos on the proper disposal of trash. "Don't put trash in the trash bin in the picnic areas!" (Oh, really' Where is one supposed to put it' What is a trash bin there for if not to be used') and another of my favorites, "Don't put trash in the spot where a Dumpster used to be!" (I daresay that if you hadn't removed the Dumpster in the first place, tenants wouldn't continue to "improperly" place their trash on that site despite the absence of a receptable! Maybe tenants' continued practice of placing their trash on that site, Dumpster or no Dumpster, could be taken as a broad hint that the darn thing should never have been removed!)

Most of the office staff have trouble speaking and understanding English, and although the maintenance dept. seems to be on top of most issues, the complex is a disaster come winter -- my building is constructed into a hill, which means there are many outside steps, and the sidewalk leading from the lot to those steps and then again to my building is built at a slant. Are the sidewalks or steps shoveled, sanded or salted after a snowfall' Never. You're on your own, pal. Better buy the heaviest, most traction-laden snow boots you can find. You'll need 'em, just for that 30-foot walk.

And oh yes, the temperature thing. Don't even think you'll be cozily turning on your heat, even on the coldest of days, after April 1, because as other posters have noted, they've TURNED IT OFF. I have to run all four stove burners just to keep myself from turning into an ice cube on those raw, bitter days that April inevitably brings. And if there's an unseasonably warm, sweltering day before June 1' Oh well! Better buy a good battery-operated fan -- because, as other posters have noted, you'll be up the creek when that storm comes by and knocks out your electricity. Expect to lose power up to a dozen times a summer. It's so much fun.

And even though there's a pool on the premises, (and we're all paying dearly for the upkeep in our rent), if you're grinning at the thought of early-morning or late-evening laps, wipe the grin off. There's no such thing -- pool hours are basically for the stay-at-homers. No one who works standard-issue dayside hours can use the pool except on weekends or holidays, and then it's so crowded you can't do laps anyway.

If they did not post notices I am sure you would complain about all the trash, nasty looking balconies, etc. As far as the pool must pools are only open until 8:00pm. You might want to check with Mont. County about the a/c I believe they must leave the heat on until mid April. The power seems like a Pepco issue and that can happen ANYWHERE!!
