Be careful of your dealings with Rinnier Managment

I was a prospective tenant at Marley Manor, which is managed by Rinnier Management. I was also a prospective tenant at another property they run - OakHill Townhouses. I was shown a two bedroom unit, 1.5 baths, with a washer and dryer in unit there. I was very enthusiastic about renting there and so I submitted an application and a security deposit as was requested. I was approved and drove all the way down to Salisbury, ready to start my move in...come to find out the Oak Hill unit they had set aside for me' Had no washer and dryer, and the young woman who'd told me to go ahead and mail in my application and security deposit' Neglected to mention that.
Naturally, I told them I wasn't interested in the unit since it wasn't like the model I'd been shown. When I was looking at apartments, I'd specifically not looked at anywhere that did not provide a washer and a dryer in unit. I asked for my security deposit back, since I'd been misled about the kind of unit that was available to me. I given some mumbo-jumbo about how I couldn't get the security deposit back because we were within 15 days of my move-in date. It had been a little over a week between the time I'd mailed in the deposit and my going down there to sign a lease. Given that I'd JUST applied for the apartment, how could I not have been within 15 days of my move-in date. It didn't make any sense to me then and it still doesn't make sense to me.
The Rinnier employee who had shown me the apartment tried to up-sell me on a couple other Rinnier-owned properties that had apartments with a washer-dryer available (Marley, Parkwoods, Parkside), but I didn't see why I should have to move in just anywhere instead of some place I *wanted* to live, because they were holding a security deposit over my head and refusing to return it. Not to mention, at that point I didn't feel comfortable signing a lease and staying in any of their properties. I'm only thankful the security deposit wasn't more. I could start legal action over getting it back, but it would hardly be worth it, which I suppose they realize, and that's why they have this inane policy they have.
I'm not the only person who had a problem trying to make apartment arrangements with Rinnier Management from afar, only to find out what we were told was available and what we sent money in for is not what we got. There's a review in the Parkwoods Apartments thread by a guy who also got the run around from Rinnier employees. Parkwoods, Oak-Hill, Parkside, Marley and Arden Run are all managed by Rinnier as of this posting.
I am not saying do not rent from them, but I am saying it's probably NOT a good idea to give them any kind of security deposit until you have seen the actual unit they are planning to rent to you. This was my first experience going through the apartment hunting process, and unfortunately it was an eye-opener. The three young people from Rinnier that I dealt with were all polite but that doesn't make losing out on my hard-earned money any better, and I personally will tell people I know to look elsewhere first.
