River Island once had a bad Rep. In Jan. 2005 a new company purchased the property and Is Rehabbing the entire complex. They also cleaned out all the bad people. The outside is said to be done by June of 2006. The manager is very sweet. Take a look and you will find a great difference

in responce to this, i do believe that river island is getting better. management is great. the prevous manager and previous owners were a joke. They let anyone in. i live here, and i know for sure that you have to have good credit, and you cannot have a criminal history. problem people have been kicked out left an right. there is a huge difference now than there was just a few months ago. i think that people should stop giveing this place a hard time and see for themselves that its worth it. because the cost is less now. after this place is clean up and looking great then the prices will probably go higher. now is the time to get in. cost of buying a home in this area is high. the houses are going for 300'000 to 500'000. apartments are going to be the way to go. and this place is in a great location.

I disagree. I've lived there. I hope River Island gets better. I really do. But, this apartment complex has a long way to go. I still see the criminal element at this place because they are still there. If they dont live there, they are visiting and staying with friends that live there. Cars are still being broken into. Howard County Police will be the first ones to tell you, that this is there major problem apartment complex. Anyone considering moving there, contact the Howard County Police. They will tell you everything you need to know about this place. They have nothing to lose or gain by it. They will tell you. I mean think about this complex and Howard County itself. Howard County is extremely expensive. River Island is cheap. Very cheap when compared to other places in this county. There is a reason for this. You get what you pay for.

The only good thing about River Island is the price but is getting a good deal on a rental more important then personal security and safety? For me, NO, that is why when my lease is up July 1st, I am moving. I cannot even walk my dog at night(9pm)without men approaching me. Think twice. The staff are ignorant and unaware of the real issues going on. I also agree that calling Howard County police prior to moving is a good idea.
