Roaches, noisy, no privacy, don't fall for it!

I understand that living in an apartment complex comes with its certain levels of discomfort, but this place is ridiculous. Our experience here started off bad and hasn t improved since. My husband and I drove all the way across the country and made our lease appointment on time only to find that none of our paper work was ready. Everything was screwed up. After sitting around for an hour waiting for the not-so-smart leasing people to get it strait, we were finally given our keys.
We were actually pleased to see that our apartment was pretty spacious. Other than that, it s been down hill since.
The roaches are SO disgusting. We spray, scrub, and wipe our kitchen every day after each meal. No matter how much we vacuum, dust, and clean, they are always here. I really think I must have some disgusting and dirty neighbors. Someone posted a roach improvement post on this website. They never came to my apartment to inspect and spray. The roaches did disappear for a while but that's because it's WINTER. Now that it s warming up again, they are all over the place.
Despite the lease saying that carpet is required in every apartment, the apartment above me has hardwood floors which are unbelievably noisy. Every single noise is amplified into our apartment. We can hear when the guy above us is walking, talking, playing his piano and drum set, dropping things, dragging chairs across the floor, yawning, coughing, and "other" noises while he's "alone". It's SO gross! Just him walking alone makes my walls rattle and dust fall from the ceiling.
We submitted a formal written complaint to the managment asking them to please install carpet and to please contact us to discuss the matter. It's been a month now and we haven't heard anything. The management only cares about taking your money, not making you a happy resident.
I know way too much about my neighbors. I hear all conversations around me and have been woken up MANY times by the baby next door screaming at all hours. I can t remember the last time I ve slept all the way through the night.
The apartment above me had TWO floods which dripped water into my apartment. After many complaints of our ceiling rotting for months, they finally came to fix it. I ve had 5 upper respiratory infections and I m guessing it s from the growing mold in the walls from all the floods. In my kitchen, if you look up in between the cupboards and the wall, you can see light coming from the kitchen in the apartment above.
These buildings are poorly made and the walls are paper thin. Speaking of walls, the paint has lead in it too. They test the fire alarms monthly, but sometimes the alarms just go off for no reason.
This place is so uncomfortable. You never get a reprieve from the city life because the noise never stops. The only positive things I can say about this place are that it is a very convenient location and the maintenance guys are very nice.
By the way, today I recorded the noise with the video camera. I plan on posting all of this on the internet very soon. I will repost with links to the video so you can see for yourself.
Don't move here! Take my advice and move to Rockville or Bethesda.
