This place seemed too good to be true when I first saw it--numerous amenities, convenient location, great price. Though Ive only been here a month or so now, I still havent found the "catch;" this place is still as great as Id thought it was in the beginning.
Pros: -All utilities included. -Location: convenient to the city. Quiet, pleasant area. Community center across the street with a childrens playground, tennis courts, basketball courts, and more. And the Rock Creek Trail, which goes into Rock Creek Park, is right down the road. -Great community! Everyones been friendly. Residents cover a pleasantly wide range of ages and races. -Apt amenities: spacious, ENORMOUS walk-in closet (it could fit a bed), dishwasher, garbage disposal, balcony, self-controlled heat/AC. -Property amenities: pool, exercise room, card-operated laundry on every floor (no need to hoard quarters!), 24-hr front desk to take packages and provide other assistance, ample free outdoor parking, cheap garage parking (w/ a short waiting list), mail & trash chutes on each floor, recycling & mailboxes on 1st floor.
Cons: Nothing significant, but I can see why the rent is cheaper here; its a matter of opinion if they are actual negatives or not: -Not much going on in the area. Inconvenient without a car. -Property is removed from, but still close to, a major road--you can sometimes hear traffic going by. Not enough noise to really notice or be bothered by. -Building is pretty old. Not enormously so, but the finishings are not really of the highest quality; kitchen cabinets and appliances are that yellowish-cream color commonly used in the early 80s, with tacky fake wood trim. Again, I dont find it a problem--everything works, and things are not so ugly that they infringe on my enjoyment of the apartment. --I couldn't ever hear my neighbors, except I could hear one neighbor from my bathroom if he was singing in the shower. :) It was kind of entertaining, so I didn't mind. -If youre not familiar with the area, Silver Spring isnt exactly the nicest location in the DC metro area. This apartment, though, is right on the border between Silver Spring and Chevy Chase--which is an extremely upscale area--so I dont feel that this location is unsafe. All the same, I do refrain from jogging outside alone when its dark out.
