Earl Manor and Earl Manor II comprise a fairly small and unique (for the area) apartment community that I am thrilled to live in. That's right, thrilled. These two buildings, which are very similar, built at about the same time (early 60's if memory serves) and apparently designed for a city that was a long time coming but it finally here, are a find! Rock-solid brick and block,
plaster walls, and, yes, still with casement windows (but good ones and quite large), this is probably the last of a dying breed: the low-rise, lobby apartments like those found in cities such as nearby Washington, DC
where people pay a LOT to live in them. While
kitchens and baths are in transition and so not ultra-modern, they are perfectly nice and
quite serviceable. Since I moved here in Oct.
of '06 we've had a record amount of rain and there have been no flooding problems at Earl II where I live. (The two buildings are very similar, the II having 60 units, the other having 80). No, it's not one of those faux- "luxury" complexes that's all sheetrock and screaming kids. It's a remarkably quiet place
with nice management, nice maintainance guy, and most of all nice neighbors. Parking is free and ample. Management is easy to work with and very personable. The interiors of the units are huge! Very ample closet space, terrace level units have large patios and surrounding green space, and the Wheaton Metro is a couple blocks walk, as is Wheaton Plaza mall and lots of great restaurants. You do not find this kind of space, solidity or community at these prices anywhere anymore
so if you are looking, you could do far worse than Earl Manor. FAR worse. I love it!
