My wife and I moved in during the summer of 2007 and we have had a relatively great time since we've been here (we will be relocating in three months due to job change). The pool is nice, the neighbors pretty much keep to themselves, and the overall landscaping/exterior of the place is kept in good condition. We had one incident while on a weekend vacation where a neighbor above us decided to turn the water while maintenence was fixing the pipes which led to flooding in our bathroom, bedroom, and hall closet. However, the maintenance staff couldn't have been nicer or quicker in responding to the situation and immediately took care of replacing the carpet. Meredith, the manager, even went as far as to give our insurance company a call to explain the situation and expedite our reimbursment. Additionally, they compensated us by paying our electric bill (they lent us a good sized dehumidifier that ran for a week straight) and taking five hundred dollars off that months rent.
Some of the negatives were:
1.) The BGE bill is off the charts. We kept the apartment at 64 in the winter when we were gone during the day and only turned it up to 68 when we came home yet the bill was regularly in the $350 range during the cold months. From reviewing other comments, sound like that is standard. Seemed to be a draft as well coming from our den glass sliding door.
2.) We are in first floor apartment and the people above us with a child must have bowling practice starting at 8-9 pm in their place because it sounds like they are rolling something around up there. However, most of the time, everything is very quiet, and that is saying something considering we are right on a main road.
3.) Gym can smell a little funky at times, especially at night during the winter when there is little ventilation.
4.) There was one break-in that I know of in one of the peripheral apartments (a friend of mine) where they entered through an unlocked window. As long as you keep your place appropriately protected, there is no reason not to feel safe.
Overall, I thought it was a great place to live. Most of the other apartments (Chase Ridge, Hampton Point, etc.) in the area seemed dirty, older, and unsafe. Neither my wife nor I felt unsafe at any time and they recently renovated all the apartments with brand new appliances. The maintenance staff and office staff were all outstanding, courteous, and prompt and I give them nothing but high praises. Parking is readily available to residents and guests with many open spots every night. Rent is high (not to mention the exorbitant electric bill), but rent everywhere in DC is high.

Fair review except that the neighboring hampton point apartments are basically interchangeable with hampton hollow. Same cleanliness, age (1980s), and safety. Hollow is just a little larger and a bit more expensive. Chase Ridge on the other hand, is much less clean and less safe.
