My husband and I have lived at Hampton Point since late spring 2006. We both commute to DC and while it does take a while (I leave after traffic time so probably 40 min for me- sometimes slightly less), we love the area and don't see it as that big a deal- and we love being right off of the beltway and not far from downtown Silver Spring. And there are several routes to get into DC. It really just depends on how far you're accustomed to traveling. There are 3 grocery stores and target very close by as well as other stores so we never have to go far for household needs.
We feel very safe living here, and have never seen any problems. The loudest it gets at night is when a powerful car drives through. The grounds are also very clean and well maintained. We're both from the south, so the complex reminds us of home. The apartments themselves are really only cleaned enough to look good upon move-in though, the people they hire to clean them do a bad job. But we've lived in two of their apartments and the carpet is always new and clean; so is the bathroom (watch out for the nooks and crannies in the kitchen). The floor plan we have is very well spaced out, though not the biggest 2 bdr they have, it makes the best use of space. The apartments are older though, and haven't been recently renovated so appliances are on the old side and kitchen cabinets and drawers are on the older side (and not well cleaned upon move-in).
The maintenance and staff are GREAT. Anything that breaks always get fixed quickly (not much has broken). The office staff is very nice and gas gone above and beyond in helping us out. Parking is okay; the later it gets the harder it is, but I'm never further away than the next building, even if I come in at midnight.
In conclusion I'm so glad we picked Hampton Point. I just wish they had 3 bdr floor plans; we have to move because we need more space.
