Great apartment in a not so great area

The apartment was very nice layout and size-wise. The management were great. Utilities were included in the rent which was not too bad. Overall it's a really nice apartment building just the surrounding neighborhood isn't the best of areas. However if you are have to live in the area this is the place to be. If I was still living in the PG county area I would have remained a tenant here.

Up to two parking spots are available per apartment. There is usually parking available, but it could definitely use more. As someone who typically wouldn't make it back from work until 6 or later by the time I got home for the day I would usually have to park on the far side of the parking lot. As far as the parking lot goes though it is very nice and feels safe, even at night (most times) despite the neighborhood. There is only one entrance to the parking lot, which has ample lighting, there are also security cameras at the entrance to the lot so anyone entering or leaving will be caught on tape.

The management at Suburban Hills is great, everyone is really nice and really helpful. They were always ready and willing to go out of their way to help us. Robert is a great landlord and would go out of his way to make sure that if an important package came in and we couldn't get to the office before they closed for the day, that he would make sure it got placed within the apartment.

The building itself is a bit older, but it has been kept up well. The AC and heating in the apartments works well and as long as the system is running i never had a problem with it being too hot or cold. My apartment faced New Hampshire Ave. so we would get some noise bleeding from the traffic if a car roared down the street or sirens from the police/fire dept, and one of our neighbors liked to sing but aside from that it was nice and quiet and a good box fan in the room does wonders for blocking out the rest of the noise at night.

The apartment layout was very nice. It can be summed up in three words: huge closet space. The closets were huge, the main coat closet we actually let double as a guest room a couple nights (just stick a cot in there and you're good). The living room was nice and large and the kitchen was a good size with plenty of cabinet and drawer space. The stove is gas. Also the floors throughout the apartment (aside from kitchen and bath) are nice hardwood, which have been given a through thick coat of wax before moving in so you don't have to worry about scratching them. The main bedroom was roomy enough to not feel cramped at all even with a desk and work station added in, and the closet was huge. The second bedroom was a bit smaller, and might be a bit cramped with a full queen-sized bed but with a double or twin it would still be really nice, again a nice large closet. The bathroom was pepto-bismal pink which I wasn't crazy about but that's a minor annoyance. We had a problem with some of the screws on the toilet having been eroded away when we first moved in but maintenance came and replaced the toilet the day after we reported it. The only reservation I have about the bathroom is that there is no under sink storage and the medicine cabinet is a bit small. There is another large closet running along the hallway opposite the bedrooms, this holds the AC unit but still has plenty of room for lots of other things, a small portion of this closet also contains shelving for linens and the like.

There is a large laundry facility on-site and a decent workout room to boot. The tenants within the building are all very nice. We did have some roaches when people in the adjacent apartments were moving in or out, but we never had a real infestation on our hands and if you let Robert know about any bugs within the apartment he'll call in the exterminator for you free of charge.

Overall this is a great apartment building to be in, the management here is great (and about the post saying they were rude and unresponsive. You have to respect and treat other people well to be treated nicely yourself) and if I hadn't moved out of the area for work I'd still be there. The surrounding neighborhood isn't that great, but it's also not the worst area in town, and the complex grounds themselves are very safe. If you're going to be living in this are, then this is definitely the apartment to rent.
