(This is replacing my original 2004 review. In the original review, I complained about slightly ineffectual staff, poor maintenance, and terrible noise from creaky floorboards. I praised the apartment for its great location and large, attractive rooms.)

It's now July 2005 and my fiance and I are finally breaking our lease. We have bought a home and will be renting no more.

Since the apt. management changed to Bonaventure, I haven't noticed a big change in the competence of the staff. They are friendly enough, but often require some prodding before they follow up on your requests. They do eventually get things done.

The noise has quieted down a bit. Was I just unlucky enough to have had 500-lb. neighbors stomping around upstairs my first year' Still, I am often treated to the loud bass thumpings from the R&B-loving tenants below. The sound insulation here is not great.

And finally, our newest roomies--the cockroaches. We actually had wasps last summer (they had built a nest outside our window and were buzzing into the room). But this year it's roaches, and no amount of pesticide will stop them. We've had four sprayings since January, with no abatement. Part of the problem is that the maintenance staff don't really know how to spray properly--they really should hire the job out to Terminex. Our whole building seems to be infested and just spraying our kitchen is obviously not going to work. I've turned on the lights in the middle of the night and found up to 5 roaches crawling on the countertops--ugh!

Anyway, if you're a zoologist studying the pesticide-resistance of cockroaches, or if you just like keeping all your flatware in a sealable baggie, please do move in here. Personally, I still can't recommend this place (although I will miss the spacious living area and super-easy commute after I'm gone) :(
