I have lived at SHG since 2000 and I can tell you the god honest truth. This was my first apartment ever so my perspective may differ from most. I am currently at Univ of MD and will graduate in December. I have given my notice and will be out at the end of September. This was my home for six years, but it is time to go. I have outgrown this place. I never used to worry about the cosmetics of where I've lived. I must have been fooling myself so I wouldn't feel bad about living here.
There are very few if any amenities. No dishwasher, washer, dryer. If you want to wash you can, but be careful in the laundry rooms. If you are looking for a home to be proud of, look elsewhere.You will not impress any friends living here. Most of my friends and family suggested I move years ago. I lived her for the convenience and the decent rental rates. The location is close to metro which is great if you don't have a car. I would not recommend this place for a female. I don't feel safe enough to walk to the corner store let alone the metro. The area is more the issue than the apartment. The neigbors are wonderful and I'll miss the people in my building.
Specifically, the apartments have roaches. When I first moved here I would Bomb the apartment and you wouldn't see a roach for months. I was fine with this because it had never been a problem. The all of a sudden with the new group of tenants in early 2006 there were roaches everywhere. They do offer exterminator service every Wednesday but a guy comes in sprays the corner and leaves. This is maintenance for a home that is not infested. This place is infested. This is what really pushed me to move. I don't keep a nasty house so it isn't fair that I should have to live with roaches. I am counting the days till I move and I am not taking any of my furniture.
Mrs. Banks is the property manager and all I can say is what has been written about her is all true. She is rude, disrespectful and an all together miserable woman. She is always on the defensive expecting confrontation even when one isn't warranted.
I would not recommend this aparment if there are other options.If you can afford to spend more for a better place I recommend that. If you can't afford better make the most of your time and make sure you have something to look forward to, A house, a condo something to keep you going.
