I agree with the previous reviewer regarding the laundry rooms. Sussex Square is a good place to live but it also has some issues that could be straightened out. I have lived here since 2005, it was nice in the beginning, management team was very nice and polite, problems were solved in a timely manner. Now the management team changes like the weather. You have to constantly stay on staff to get anything done. SOME of the laundry rooms ARE the pits. The doors is always kept open. The machines are always being vandalized/broken into, the coin slots are always cut out. Whoever is doing this must be a very sad and PRESSED individual. The pipes are leaking from the ceiling, machines are leaking water all over the floor when it's on the rinse/spin cycle. I don't know how many times I have complained to the resident manager and was always told to call Coin Star for repairs. Some of these repairs Coin Star have nothing to do with. Do they realize the many times Coin Star have to come out to repair these machines it's costing the tenants...an increase in their rent, and god knows whatever else. I have made several suggestions to management that may or could help to solve this problem:
1) Change the machines from coin slots to slide cards. Tenants be issued a slide card to use instead of using quarters in the machines. 2) Install a security camera or hire security. There use to be a security guard patrolling the complex when I first moved here ... wonder what happened to him. At least if the vandals saw that the complex was being secured that might deter them from breaking in. 3) Put secure doors on each building then tenants would need a key card to enter the building. Those that is not tenants hopefully won't be able to enter. 4) Lock the laundry rooms after 11:00 at night. Management paid me no attention.
Just recently, I washed in the laundryroom and was not able to get my clothes out the dryer. At first the door was left open as always, I went back down to dry my clothes and I shut the door behind me and could not get back in. They had changed the locks on the door. I have no idea when that took place. I called night maintenance answering service and they could not get anyone out there until Sunday. That was only because I kept calling. There was no notice sent out to tenants informing them of any change, etc.
Remember the movie The Landlord starring Joe Pepsi, where he was a slum lord to his tenants and he was made to live in one of his worst buildings. Well they need to have the owners of this complex and the resident managers live here and wash their clothes in these conditions and they will experience the same problems we as tenants are having. For the amount of rent we pay, management should be ashamed of themselves.

Unfortunately, I don't even use the laundry facilities unless I have to. I take my clothes on Marlboro Pike to the Spin Cycle. We had an incident a few months ago...where we had clothes in the washer. We went to go get them and the door was locked and our key wouldn't work. We called night maintenance and they told us that we couldn't get it open until Tuesday (monday was a holiday) when the rent office opened. I said my clothes would be ruined by then, so I called a locksmith, I was willing to pay for the cost because either way, I would have to pay to replace the clothes that would be damaged which would have been more than the locksmith. So I called the night maintenance back, i forgot to ask about maintenance letting us in. She informed me that maintenance did not have keys to the laundry room...my first reaction was WTF?? The the locksmith said since it was the property of the rental office, I would have to get written permission from the office. Well, after numerous calls to night maintenance to rectify the situation and getting the runaround, we were finally able to use something else to unlock the door. Luckily our clothes weren't ruined. We haven't used the facilities since.
