In General, It Meets My Needs

Years at this apartment: 2007 - 2008
I moved in 14 months ago. Though I wouldn't call it glamorous living, my apartment is quaint and certainly meets my needs at this time. The leasing consultant showed me 3 1-bedroom apartment options, all had utils included. She lowered the affordable rent by $15 when I mentioned that I had just looked at apartments in the place next door. Hmmmn...anyway, I chose to move in, having been charmed by the rent, the "vintage" feel of the place (arched doorway, hwf, porcelain sink, back porch, etc) and the accessibility. The building, though technically located in Takoma Park is situated in a very convenient area--1 block southwest to DC, 1 block northwest to Sil Spring with easy access to public transportation & area parking. It is perfectly suited to single residents or persons with small, young families (up to 3BR are available I think):there is a little playground on site and right across the street in Blair Park, there's access to some picnic tables, another playground, tennis & basketball courts along with a soccer field.
The neighborhood is pretty quiet, diverse, and clean. . .it's wrong to judge a building by the look of some of its residents, although I wish some of them would care a bit more about tidyness (from my porch I can see that some folks use their back porches for "junk storage"--but that's their business, I suppose). Btw, no pet deposit is required for small pets!
The building manager is friendly & responsive enough (I only have to leave him a message on his voicemail and usually my issue is addressed within 24 to 48 hour period). He and his brothers live in the apartments and take care of the grounds (his brothers are talkative too, although they unfortunately leave the scent of alcohol & cigarettes when they're around). I've never seen any rodents and I didn't really see ANY bugs (what a relief) until just 2 months ago when there seemed to be daily sightings in ONE of my kitchen cabinets (and nowhere else though). After failing to curtail the issue with my own remedies, I asked that management spray my kitchen. This was done within 2 days of my request and though they are present less often, I still see the critters in that same kitchen cabinet from time to time. I think if I ask them to spray once a month for the next few months hopefully it'll be resolved.
Here are my 4 minor annoyances:1) Residents cannot control their own heat (there seems to be 2 settings for it---either management has it "On" & cranked up so high that you have to crack your windows so you don't suffocate, or it's "Off"(although I don't complain b/c personally I'd rather be hot than cold); 2) A/C is not included, you have to purchase your own unit which management must approve & install and they charge an extra $300 for its use of electricity during the summer months; 3)The laundry room is open every day from 9am to 9pm only--I wish it were at least open longer like 7am to 10pm; 4) Every month or 2 management posts signs about having some reason to enter all the apartments for some type of building inspection---this month they're doing water damage inspections . . .I've never lived in a place where the management makes so many unsolicited entries into my apartment, but as long as nothing is missing or broken when they leave, I guess I can live with it.
