I lived at Hillwood Manor for 3 years, in two different apartments, and only left because I had to move out of state. (I transferred apartments after a year.)

Hillwood Manor is located on the Langley Park side of Takoma Park. The buildings are old (no central air, gas stoves, radiator heat and 1950's style bathrooms), but many have hardwood floors and ceiling fans. Most, if not all, have beautiful views of Sligo Creek Park.

There are NO amenities here. Parking is permit only, and is ample. Units do not have washer/ dryers in the apartment, but there are plenty of laundry rooms throughout the complex, and they are available 24 hours, accessed by key only. The rent is SUPER low, even for Takoma Park standards, and includes all utilities (except for an air conditioning fee in the summer months if you use a window unit).

As I said, the buildings are old and there are no amenities, but the low rent and woodland view more than make up for that. Even better, the apartment manager is an amazingly personable and responsive woman. In an earlier review, the writer called the manager a jerk, and suggested that she lied about apartment availability. Since this place has some of the lowest rents in the area, the office manager receives applications daily, and apartments go fast. If you're interested in this place, I'd act on it quickly. That goes for any place in Takoma Park. Takoma Park has better rent control than the rest of Montgomery County, and places are highly sought out. As for personal attacks on the manager, I've known the woman for years, and have only found her to be honest, gregarious, hardworking, and actively involved in the community. While I lives there (and to my knowledge, this still goes on), she'd organized a tenant association (she lives on site), and events like an annual community yard sale.
