I think the rent here is great for the size (I am from California, though, so maybe that's relative). Hardwood floors, dishwasher, garbage disposal, cable ready, balcony. The maintenance guy is great, super nice, fast, and lives on site. It's hard to find a time after work when someone isn't already on the one treadmill--I wouldn't count on this place as having a gym. Parking is plentiful but all outside. Laundry machines aren't great, and expensive, and often jam. I contact Coinmach about the jams all the time but they never put new mechanisms in them, so they just keep jamming. I also think it's fairly safe, although someone tried to break into my car (maintenance guy stopped them!) and I just heard two apartments had break ins recently. I wouldn't count it as that close to public transportation, either. It's walkable, but 15 min to the Takoma Park stop. If you take the bus, you'll have to take two at least to get where you're going.

The part that stinks here is how darn loud the trains are. They're real loud. All the trains go through--Metro, Amtrak, and freight trains--and the building shakes. I can see the trains from my window and can hear the Metro drivers announcing the next stop. You have to pause whatever you're listening to, and ask people on the phone to hold on. I don't know how they timed my first walk through with no trains, but they did.

The walls are thin, and I can hear my neighbors. I'll bet they can hear me, too.

Still, I'd be staying here if I weren't leaving town.
