I hope you are reading this before you consider moving in...... This is not the place for the money. For just a little more, I believe you can find something far more for the value.
About the problems:
1. Frequent break-ins. My apartment was broken into on May 6th, 2004. The management will skirt this issue when confronted. As I did a little research, it turns out that SEVERAL apartments around the complex (mine included) were broken into around the same time. Disregard them if they tell you that police live on-site. My unit was broken into in the middle of a sunny afternoon - BROAD DAYLIGHT!!!!
2. Noise...terrible, terrible noise. If for some unknown reason, you decide to move there, do NOT live in the section of buildings close to the basketball court!! Seemingly, NONE of the parents watch their kids (various ages, and a WHOLE LOT OF THEM) so things get broken, stolen, and tore up. Don't say you weren't warned..........
3. Dilapidated conditions. Like someone else mentioned, the management cares more about maintaining the overall facade of a nice community than its actual upkeep. Every appliance, door, wall, etc. in these buildings is either antiquated or in badly need of replacement. Not worth what they want for it.
4. Slow response for tenant request. If you move in and find that you are missing a screen to say, a bedroom window, you probably won't ever see it during your stay. EVERYTHING seems to ALWAYS be on back order.
5. Just plain dirty. Apparently, few of the tenants seem to understand what a garbage dumpster is for. Most of the garbage ends up on the parking lot, grass, etc.
My last piece of advice to you is - check it out on a Friday or Saturday evening. That is when the REAL Gateway Square emerges. Please reconsider! I don't want you to lose your belongings or sanity by moving here!!!
