I am approaching one year at Gateway Square, and this is the truth. I too searched Apartment Ratings a year ago when I was looking to rent and am searching again now looking to rent elsewhere. Now Gateway is not bad if you are young, your firt apartment with a couple of small kids, or a newlywed saving for a house. If you are older, or mature, or do not have ghetto ways this is not the place for you. When I first moved in it was nice, the buildings are old, but the property was well kept, except on the weekends. The told me they do not accept Section 8, and do criminal background checks, I beg to differ. As of lately, kids are in laundry rooms having sex when you come to do laundry, marijuana smell come through your windows all the time, the teenagers hang in the building and leave their candy papers and soda cans behind. The buildings should have a key or keypad entry and the laundry room should have a tenant key. Anyway, the apartments are huge, the largest I have seen, the rental office is very nice except Lynette she think she is so beautiful she forgets that she is not. There is a strange odor that comes from the heaters like old pork or perhaps dead mice, we have seen so far 7 on my floor alone! The air blow hot air when it is super hot outside, the windows are so old and the balconies, ripped screens and junk that people keep on the balconies are so embarrasing you do not want to have guest. Management does a great job of keeping the outside property clean, trash emptied daily and flowers planted, etc. but they need to come inside and re-do this old, ugly balconies and windows. How about bring the bathrooms up to date, it is no longer 1955! My neighbors upstairs state all they hear are the squirrels and animals that run across the roof of the building like there is a herd. You can also hear mice running through the walls. Now its not super ghetto, the esthetics are wonderful but you cannot cover up oldness you need to renovate. And we pay water, the rental office will tell you that it is based on the # of occupants in your apartment, that is a lie, the bill can run from $18 month to $45 month, it depends on whether your apartment building is all full or whether it has several vacancies. You can forget about parking from 8pm until the next morning, parking sucks!! You can forget about bringing guest to your house in the day hours because you never know what the kids or their marijuana parents are doing. I doubt if everyone here is paying market price for their rent, I am sure they are now allowing section 8 folks back. Do not rent here, Do not rent here, you have been warned.

Thank you and Im glad we do not move to Gateway Square. But, I wished I never moved to Oxon Hill Village Apartments it is almost worser than where you at. We have tentants who do not respect others for example: If I and my sons are coming in we have to wait to they move off the steps, and another is they are so loud. On top of it they spits in the hallway, plus they slamms the doors all the time. I never in my entire life seen someone take the door to their apartment and shout it hard two times. It is so........loud it sounds like gun shots. PG police are always around here and not only that the kids are out of control. They runs around like little monkeys, and I want to take soap and wash their mouths out. I am so glad my sons do not go outside, we keep them in so we know what they are doing. Last week a little boy called my son the B word, plus called my son a ------ and on top of it he said, he gets more p then my son gets d. I asked my son how old is this child and he said about 5 or 6. What is the world coming to with these kids today and their paernts??? I wish you had warn me about Oxon Hill Village Apartments(LOL). Anyway, we are moving back to Waldorf this July where it is peace and quiete.

It is so sad how (some) black people do not know how to act, raise their children properly, or just be good human beings, respectful to others and respectful of themselves. This is why White ppl look @ black ppl as 2nd (or 3rd) class citizens. The best piece of advice I can give 2 everyone on here is to case any apartment you're interested in living in for about a week. In other words, come to the apartment & just sit in your parked car for about 30 min at different times of the day & especially on weekends. Try 2AM Sat or 7PM weekdays. This way you get 2 see what goes on around the complex. Also, go online & check local police blotters to check the crime rate in the area.
