Maybe/Maybe not - Hard to say

I'm a relatively new resident at Oxon Park also. You can believe all of the reviews here, they are true (no lies). The apartments are very affordable. However, they are old fashioned and the windows need to be updated. My apartment is a nice size, and when something needs to get fixed, maintenance responds promptly. (This has been my experience). The building I live in is very quiet and most people stay to themselves. I don't have a lot of problems with bugs. However, I am what you call a neat freak. Some new tenants recently moved into the building and I have been seeing bugs more often. I put down some combats and have not really had a problem. I think the teenagers hang around too much. I do not like the loitering. When you inform the rental office, they do handle it. However, they need to be more diligent about it.It saddens me that our young men have nothing better to do but hang around all day and smoke weed. They don't think they are doing anything wrong. The management sent out a notice about the loitering and it has gotten a little better. We have had problems with homeless people sleeping in our building, and had to contact the police. They are responsive and will come out and make arrests. The property does have security. They are on duty only until 12mid. Someone unlawfully went into my apartment and removed some items also. I too think it was the maintenance staff. Other than myself, they are the only ones that have a key. I have not had any serious issues. I was okay with the apartment until someone came into my unit unlawfully and now I do not feel comfortable living at Oxon Park anymore. Until I find something else, I will be having a locksmith change the locks and the rental office will not get a key. They will only be allowed in my unit if I'm there. I spoke with other tenants that have resided at Oxon Park a long time and they informed me that maintenance did it. They too have had that issue and said they changed their locks and the rental office do not have a key and is only allowed in their units when they are home. The property does not want to admit they have a theif on their staff. It seems to me that they blamed the tenant for not properly locking their doors. I am poking around and looking at other properties. I don't want to rush, because reading the reviews at Apartment Ratings, Oxon Park does not seem that bad and I do not want to pay a mortgage for rent. The perks about the property is, it's very affordable, you are between two metro stations within walking distance. (Naylor Road & Southern Avenue) and the bus service is very good. They also do a good job keeping the property up. In any case, before you decide to lease here, please come by and check it out for yourself. Everyone's experience is not the same. However, all the reviews on this site are true. By all means, come by and talk to the tenants who reside at Oxon Park and ask them what they think before you sign a lease. Most of the residents have been living at Oxon Park a long time. (I think because it's so affordable). Before my apartment was entered unlawfully, I was thinking of changing to a two bedroom. I think not now. I will make due with what I have until I find something else. Another thing, the parking is not good for the residents. This is because, SE is right across the street. (Shipley Park Apartments) Their tenants park their cars on Oxon Parks Property. I don't think this is fair because the people who pay their rent at Oxon Park can't park in front of their building because most of the parking spots are taken up by people who live across the street in another apartment complex. I really think management should have some kind of parking enforcement. Also, I notice the residents over at Shipley Park are using Oxon Parks dumpsters to dump their trash. In any case, before you take anyone's word for it, please come out and see for yourself. I hope this review was helpful.
