Probably best deal around

Years at this apartment: 2005 - 2007

We lived in Whispering Hills apts. for over two years. We had a nice, family friendly building and had no complaints about our neighbors. Maintenance was very slow, however. We had several issues with our apartment and each time it would take more than one call to the maintenance hotline to get someone to come out or to come back to finish the work. The apt. itself was in nice condition with new paint and nice oak cabinets in the kitchen and bathroom. Our main problems were with our AC. First, the tray that holds the condensation from the AC broke and spilled water down the wall of our closet. Thankfully, it did not ruin much. The other problem we had was that the air filer (outside) was so dirty that our AC couldn't cool down the apartment in summertime. We were able to get someone to come check on the problem and I watched as they washed away a ton of black dirt and debris from the outside filter. The problem was fixed, but it concerned me that this apparently wasn't something that's regularly done. And our power bills were very high for the months before this when we suffered through with AC that was working all the time but never cooling. One thing that makes up for that is that they do pay for heating (I'm assuming that it's gas') so our winter bills were as low as $30 one month. As for other problems, we once had some very large, very scary spiders in our closet. Eventually maintenance came out to spray for bugs and patch a small hole where they might have been coming in. After that, we only saw one or two of them again.

As for safety, I did feel comfortable in my apt. during the day. At night I felt that I should be on my guard in the parking lot. And parking was always a little hard to find at night. I think the apts. in Timonium (Whispering Hills and Reflections Knoll) are much safer then the other Henderson-Webb apts. just over the road in Cockeysville. Those looked very shady and not as safe. We were also informed about a rape in that area by a police flyer just days after moving in. I would not really recommend walking at night, but other than that, there is a locked front door (which is great for cutting down on unwanted solicitors!) and the place feels rather safe. The nice thing is that these apts. back up on a high school and residential area--a nice community.

My biggest complaint about Henderson-Webb would have to be how we were treated when my husband's job was transfered to Pennsylvania. The timing was bad, since we had just renewed our lease for another year. We had to pay Henderson-Webb two months rent for breaking the lease--$1400! We had been residents for over two years--it was not like we were breaking the lease in our first year. And they would not accept a letter from my husband's company in order to wave the fee. That really burned me because it was a hardship for us to come up with that much money (for nothing!).

However, I do think that in the Cockeysville/Timonium area, these are the best apts. at the best price. Just expect a little trouble getting maintenance to come out. And pray that you never have to break your lease!
