Years at this apartment: 2003 - 2004
I?ve have lived at Ridgeview for over a year and it was less then a pleasant experience. To say that these apartments are not worth the four figures a month it costs to rent is an understatement. Most of the staff members are well meaning most of the time, but a couple of the staff members are plain ignorant. One woman in the office has the personality of a brick and the demeanor of a hornet.
The apartments are over run with bratty children who skateboard in the streets, on the sidewalks, on the tennis court, and anywhere else they can get away with. On multiple occasions I almost ran over a reckless child who flew into traffic on his or her skateboard unsupervised without so much as looking for traffic. I guess this speaks as much about the parents that live at Ridgeview as much as the fact that the apartment management does nothing to keep this from happening.
Parking wouldn?t be bad if parking was assigned, however it isn?t and teenage residents who have their 10 friends over everyday and night take all the spaces close to the apartments, leaving the actual residents to have to walk to and from their cars. The snow removal is started quickly after a major snow, however it isn?t done well. Snow is only removed from the center of the street and often this results in snow getting piled up in front of cars up to a foot deep. That is always fun to find when you?re getting ready to go to work in the morning.
The apartments themselves are decently sized, but are poorly made. The heat pump for the apartment runs constantly in the summer and winter due to the fact the place is so poorly insulated that no heat or cold air actually stays in the apartment. I?m sure BGE loves it, but I digress. I guess this wouldn?t be a major problem if the heat pump wasn?t constantly broken. To say that the maintenance staff is quick to repair problems is less than accurate. The maintenance staff IS VERY knowledgeable, but there are only two maintenance guys for 3 complexes of apartments. The staff even admitted that they are understaffed, but that still doesn?t get your problem fixed any sooner. The appliances are old and most of the refrigerators are not even frost free. The apartments do have full size washers and dryers, which while old and loud, do an adequate job.
Noise can be a problem. You can basically hear whatever the person above you and below you is doing if they don?t make an effort to be quiet. If you are lucky enough to have quiet neighbors, you?re okay. But god help you if you have some ill mannered neighbors move in.
Now if all this doesn?t impress upon you to stay away from Ridgeview Chase, let me add one more thing. Due to the nice thin walls and exhaust vents being obviously connected, you will have the joy of smelling cigarette smoke from your neighbors wafting into your apartment on a daily basis if they smoke. If you?re a smoker, I guess this isn?t a problem. However, if you?re like me and loath smokers, it is a real problem when your apartment constantly smells like smoke and you don?t smoke.
To put it nicely, I am very under whelmed by my living situation at Ridgeview Chase. Are they the nicest apartments in Westminster' They probably are. However, that?s only because there are only two places to choose from and the other is in the worst part of Westminster. From my experience, I?d say go somewhere else.
