Our unit was great because: (read further below for why it was not-so-great)
1. 1st floor location;
2. Our immediate neighbors (in quad-plex) were rarely home;
3. Quad-plex unit was at the very beginning (or end, depending on how you look at it) of complex block, so it seemed to "stand on it's own" and not be part of the complex;
4. We negotiated a discount rent rate because we had to walk SO far for parking;
5. Unit faced the bay - perfect views!;
6. Harwood floors throughout, besides bath, & kitchen (we discovered the other 1st floor unit of the quad-plex also had hardwood flooring, but Princeton covered it with a rug. Easier to take care of, of course. I'm not sure what the ratio of hardwood/linolium is for the complex.)
7. Heat & hot water was included in rent. (More about this below!)
8. Complex-community neighbors were friendly (read more in #6 below)
Our unit was not-so-great because:
1. Parking...ugh! We were only able to have (rent) one parking spot, because there isn't enough parking at the complex. This means car #2 has to fight for street parking. And, parking bans REALLY suck! MANY times people had taken our space, (yes, the space we paid $30/month for) or blocked our space by parking in a no-parking zone. As mentioned above, where our unit was situated, we had a long walk. Grocery shopping was a bummer for this reason. And, if you parked out front, on Baxter Blvd., you'd get a ticket. (I managed to get only one....was parked for about 15 minutes.)
2. BUGS! Ew! We are very clean people, yet we had black ants in the summer. Since we used "fruity smelling" soap, I was worried it was my fault, so I switched soap and put ant traps out. We also had lots of run-ins with spiders. (The tan-colored kind.) And, worst of all...pinchers! (earwigs) These came out in the fall, and I think they scared me for life. :) One day I was home for work and I think I killed 12. Since there wasn't anything we had they were attracted to, we didn't know what to do. We complained to Princeton a couple times, they claimed they sprayed around the building, but never the apartment. There is no wonder there were bugs, though, the apartments are VERY old (from the 1920's maybe'). The basement in our unit was disgusting.
3. No heating control. That's right! The old buildings had no control over heat. The radiators had faux-control knobs. (They didn't work.)_ Our heat control was our windows. As far as hot water, we always ran out in the morning. (I took showers at night...smart!)
4. The office staff was usually nice...but it didn't seem sincere and I really don't think they care about the tenants. Maybe overworked' Maybe underpaid' Maybe just miserable'
5. NO closet space! Ok...there was SOME. But girls..watch out! I had to out all my clothes into a tiny 1-door closet that is 1/3 of the size of most closets. The results...wrinkled clothes!
6. Complex-community neighbors were not-so friendly. For the nice people we ran into, we ran into twice as many jerks.

That's right. Neighbors are not so friendly, complaint about even the soundest sound of stereo because you can even hear them snoring. Next time when my neighbor is snoring and makes me can't sleep, I will just have to knock on his door. You can even hear your upstair's neighbor phone ringing. Terrible.
