TERRIBLE COMPLEX....

Not every "family owned and operated" apartment complex is good. Remember, even the mob is a "family". CMB's Broadview Apartments were the worst place I've lived at in Ann Arbor, and I've been in this town for 6 years. If you're a U-M student with classes on North Campus, the location is good, but there are several complexes with equally good locations. The rent is 100 dollars cheaper than other complexes in the area, but these other complexes have pools, club houses, good gyms, and laundry facilities in your apartment. Broadview has no pool or club house. The gym is in a dark, damp, unsafe basement of one apartment building. You share laundry facilities with neighbors, and you have to pay an extra fee for laundry. In a nutshell, you lose a lot for that $100 per month. Now let me move to the complex's major disadvantages. First, the heaters and air conditioners are extremely loud. Every time they switch on or off at night, you'll wake up, until you get used to them. Secondly, you'll see bugs... lots of bugs... Thirdly, the appliances are ancient and malfunctioning. My fridge internally condensed, and froze, half a gallon of water every week. My dishwasher leaked and flooded the kitchen. My sink leaked. And my thermostat was 7-10 degrees off. The carpeting, bathroom floor tiling, and bathroom cabinets were old and icky. The walls were so thin I could hear my upstairs neighbor walk to the bathroom when he woke up, and I could hear every word of the next door neighbor's fights with their significant other. Worst of all, the maintenance crew was, indeed, very prompt, but also very incompetent. They made three visits to fix the fridge. Each time, they concluded it worked well. Same for the thermostat. The management is very unhelpful and snotty. I was paid a surprise visit by the "general manager" one time, who demanded to inspect the apartment immediately and also to find out when I was leaving. This was about 2 months before the end of my lease! She was quite rude, so I decided to mention the fridge, for the fourth time. She promised to send someone over to check it out. No one came. It's like I rented from the mob's crooks. So much for "family owned and operated". My advice is, if you have an extra 100 dollars a month, rent from Parc Pointe or Windemere Park. You will get a clean, perhaps even luxurious (in Windemere's case) apartment with working appliances. And NO ONE from the management will knock on your door two months before the end of your lease, demanding to perform an inspection.
