They run this place like slum lords

Parking: There isn't enough. People park each other in and block fire hydrants all the time. Covered parking is not worth renting because everyone parks in your space. There have been nights I have to walk from the 2 or 3 lots away because nothing closer was available.
Noise Level: Well, some of my neighbors blare their music all day. Dogs are always barking. People fighting in the hallways sound like they are right next to you. It is impossible to study here and sometimes it is tough to sleep.
Grounds: They almost got a 4 here. We loved the lake and the paths around it. And the woods are nice to, you almost forget you are right next to the highway. BUT no one picks up after their dog. I would never let my children run around an play. It is gross. Also they get very low marks for upkeep. The snow removal is pathetic. It takes them weeks to deal with it. For example, it hasn't really snowed in about 2 weeks now. But they are still out there going over some sidewalks. There also is consistently about 1.5-2" of ice on our steps. It is a major health concern everytime I leave my building.
Safety: Like I said, the fire hydrants are almost always blocked. The ice build up is awful. Top that off with the poor lighting in the parking lots/ sidewalks and they were lucky to get a 2 from me.
Construction: It probably was nice in the 70's, but they haven't done much to keep it up. Our living room feels like a freezer with the wind just whipping through the windows. The one advantage is the size, lots of square feet for your dollar.
Maintenance: Don't get me started on this one. They are the laziest group of guys ever. Granted, they probably do need more help to do the job effectively, but they don't even try. It takes months just for them to satisfy the most basic, non-emergency maintenance request. There are things on my move-in list from almost 2 years ago that still aren't done. I got sick of calling them after about 3 months. To be honest, I do a lot of the work myself whenever possible. My bathroom molding has been broken since I moved in; my bedroom blinds are the same way. It took 6 months to get my living room blinds fixed. The tile in the bathroom wasn't laid properly so it is coming of the wall. And, when they did try to fix my drafty (understatement) windows, the moron didn't know what he was doing with the caulk gun. It is no better than before. These are all problems I have had for almost 2 years now, and nothing is ever done about them. I used to call every week. Then a few times a month. We tried to get some things done before resigning (that was a mistake we made out of convenience--thought we could handle it for another year to save money) but even those haven't been completed. They should fire all but 1 or 2 of these guys. They are lazy and ignorant.
Office Staff: This one is hard to rate becuase they are changing all the time. Most of them are friendly, some of them are knowledgeable, a few of them should be fired with the maintenance staff. The bookkeeper and sales manager both seem to know what they are doing. We just got a new manager a few months ago. I was really hoping that would turn things around. It looks like things have only been made worse. The customer service manager is no help at all and only gives excuses, and they aren't good ones. The staff is usually pretty good overall though.
Overall: It's cheap and a decent size living space--that is what attracted us from the start. BUT it isn't worth it. They seem to be happy taking your money and letting the place fall apart; that is why I think they are slum lords. I should say that this company does not run all their properties this way and I would consider living in a different one.
I wouldn't live here. The savings in money doesn't even come close to making up for the poor parking, noise, safety, construction or the pathetic maintenance.

Well, I've been living here for almost 2 years now and I love it. I have had no problems with this place at all. To be honest I've noticed the only people that complain are the ones that are irate and don't pay their rent. So, it's sad to hear that!

I'm sorry, but if your concerns were THAT SERIOUS, you wouldn't have let them go for TWO YEARS! Seriously! If wind were "whipping" through MY apartment, damn straight I'd be in the office yesterday and not let it go until I was satisfied. Since I'M paying the gas bill, that's not something that can be ignored. I did notice they do a lot of snow work. But it's for everyone's benefit because they shovel even after it drifts BACK OVER THE SIDEWALK. Would you rather they left it there? Something tells me that nothing would satisfy you. |

It's clear you don't have any clue what a true slum is. Glencoe might not be pristine, but it's a good apartment complex. I've lived in Spicetree, Riverrain and a couple different apartments managed by Triangle. Trust me...the Triangle properties are slums. Glencoe, while it has a few warts, is definitely the best of the group.
