Been there done that

Years at this apartment: 1995 - 1995
I lived at Glencoe Hills for 11 months. I could not stand living there. Right from day one when I moved in and was getting ready to go to my evening/weekend job and could not get OUT of my apartment--the lock was stuck or broken. I had to call maintenance and told them I could not get out of my apartment. They thought I was high on something. You hear about someone getting locked out of their home but never IN. They came by and tested the lock, saw it was stuck and had to remove and replace the entire thing. I had to call into work as I could not leave until the lock was replaced and my apartment secured.
The laundry facilities downstairs were marginal at best and they replaced the washers and dryers with new ones but it was just prior to when I moved out.
Right from month one I had to remove my dishes and food articles from cupboards as they posted notifications of spraying for cockroaches (they were known to exist in my building). These notifications came almost monthly whereby I had to keep hauling my dishes, etc. out of cupboards and putting them into the moving boxes until I was given the "ok" to put them back. However, bimonthly routine of doing this got old really quick. I later never put them back.
The window wall in the living room was not only drafty, you could see the curtain move to the waves of wind coming in from the window. Hence, you used more heat to maintain even a "comfy" temperature.
Parking for paying tenants was next to impossible as everyone had parties or massive amounts of people living with them and using up spots that WE were paying to use. I never attempted to use someones carport as I did not want to come out and find my car either vandalized or towed away altogether. I came home one night after being at two jobs back-to-back (approximately 11pm) to not find a spot in my building area except for carports. I ended up parking in handicapped figuring I was leaving early the next morning (around 7am) so no one would care. I came out the next morning to find a ticket from Ann Arbor police timed 11:10pm. Someone ratted me out and called the fuzz. Nice.
I went to give my notice at the 11th month of my lease and upon the usual arguing, the guy said "we'll let you out of your lease if there is someone in line wanting an apartment like yours", to which there was, and I said "so long, see ya".
I was warned about that complex by coworkers and friends but didn't listen and moved there anyway. Big mistake! Don't do it.
The management company, who shall be nameless, buys up property like it's going out of style. Then they primp and pretty it up, and then jack up rental rates massively but don't provide any service to warrant that level of increase. They devote time to bringing new tenants in and ignoring their existing tenants (which isn't right).
You couldn't pay ME to move back there. Once was definitely enough.
