Great apartment!

I've lived at homestead commons since August 2005 and it's really a great place.

The management is very friendly and was very good at spelling out everything. There is plenty of parking, and the well-lit covered parking is a bonus, at no charge (1 car).

The apartment buildings are well-maintained and quite spacious - ours was in immaculate condition when we moved in, and all the appliances worked except the A/C. The A/C was fixed the monday after I moved in, as promptly as they could probably have managed.

The walls in the unit aren't particularly thick, but the ones between and above/below seem very solid. I can barely ever hear neighbors, and even though it's usually through the front door if someone's in the hallway.

The heat is a gas furnace in each unit, with a furnace A/C unit so the whole apartment stays cool in the summer. There's also an individual water heater.

Oh, and pet rent is (as of now) free!

Homestead commons is south of town, kind of on the edge of the former 'bad parts' of ann arbor, and is down the street from 'extremely low income housing' and a trailer park, but the area is quite nice and there seems to be no issues with crime at all, or any kind of shady activity that I've ever seen. Plus, there are parks all over and it's only two miles from my job!

Downsides:
- not a lot of 'amenities', such as a workout area, pool, etc.
- Even though the windows are dual pane, they seem a bit cold. Not really a draft, just not as insulating. I would put up plastic but I have cats :)
- Kitchen is small. I love to cook, and it's adequate, but two people can't fit in it.
- Bathroom is also small, which isn't a problem except the catboxes won't fit in there!
- There were small animals in the walls/space above my 2nd floor apartment, however maintenance has put traps outside and has been repairing the roofs so this may just be a transient thing and was not very annoying.

Overall, this is the nicest place I have lived since moving to ann arbor! What it lacks in 'luxury' amenities is made up in stellar management and maintenance and high-quality apartments.
