You get what you pay for....

In response to the last comment, as well as my current frustration with the complex, I feel compelled to write this review. First of all, the maintenance here is horrible!!! The maintenance guys are the nicest, sweetest people on Earth, but there are far too few of them (when we moved in, the person doing our lease told us they only had one person, but not to worry, because they were hiring a second!) to care for the complex and it takes FOREVER to get things fixed and that is only after daily reminders to the office. For example, when we moved-in in August, we had a long list of things that needed fixing (a very ominous sign) and at least half of the things on it are still NOT fixed as of February, including our front door (which apparently was kicked in and then just screwed back together instead of replaced) and the constantly running toilet (at least we don't pay for water), and what few things that were fixed, literally took months, including our smoke detector (safety is not valued at all). We truly have given up on hoping that anything will ever get fixed around here. The office staff just lies and gives you the run around -- it's ridiculous how many times they've told me "it's on their list of things to do today." And that is another problem, you never know when they are going to come (day or time), they just randomly show up which is not good if you want to be there while they are doing the repairs (other people have complained about the repair people stealing stuff, but I trust the few repair guys I've met. Along other safety issues, the parking lot is dark and most of the light on the outside of the buildings or the common lights inside the buildings don't work which makes for a very scary walk home from the bus stop (yet another repair they REFUSE to do). Our mailbox was also broken into, possibly thanks to the broken front door that never locks, and it took them 3 full days to fix our mailbox. Someone was trying to steal our mail, yet they didn't think fixing our box was important enough to bump it up on the priority list. So yeah, basically safety here sucks, the main door is always broken, this is the second time our mailbox was broken and wasn't fix for lengthy periods of time (the first time was just a bad lock that couldn't be unlocked), and our front door is loosely held together by a few screws.
The gym does NOT have new equipment in it, since I actually use it, I can attest to the ancient elliptical machine that squeaks so loudly you can't stand to use it and one of the two treadmills is so jacked up you have to set it to at least twice the normal speed you would use. The pool is OK for the most part but the hot tub needs to be cleaned.
Although there are tons of things I hate about this place, the one plus is the cheap rent, which is one of the cheapest in Ann Arbor for the size of the apartments and the gym/pools. So basically as long as you have no problem using the money you save in rent to do your own repairs, this is an OK place.
