1. Year-round infestation problems (i.e., ants, spiders, pill bugs, centipedes)
2. Leaky ceiling in bathroom and along sliding door which were never fixed despite my ranting and raving. Mind you, this very issue is stipulated in the Ann Arbor Tenant's Rights handbook as being a major problem that must be promptly rectified.
3. Incessant noise from neighbors (i.e. loud mariachi music, obnoxious parties during which I finally had to call the police to come as there is no provided recourse here such as a courtesy line for tenants, neighbors bang around upstairs, etc.) NOT an ideal situation if you are a graduate student!!!!
4. If you are a nonsmoker and care about your health, DO NOT MOVE HERE. It seems I am the only individual in this entire community who does not smoke. Incursion of smoke into my apartment from the outside, from the hallways, via the vent systems, fixtures, etc. has been a constant nuisance from the day I moved in here. Both the local office and corporate office insist that my rights to a clean and healthy environment as stipulated by the Michigan Warrant of Habitability clause are trumped by smokers' supposed rights to engage in their habit despite the fact that it negatively effects us all. The fact that this place, mind you in a very progressive and health conscious town such as Ann Arbor, does not heed the health and safety of all of its tenants is extremely disconcerting. The smoke has been so bad at times it's made me acutely ill with headaches and nausea.
5. My electricity goes out more often in a week's time here than other people experience in an entire year elsewhere! Infuriating when you are working on a paper at night....

This has been one of the most unpleasant experiences I have ever had, and I am not usually one to complain. But as I'm staring at my leaky ceiling as a result of the snow melting on the balcony above me, I've finally snapped. I'm looking forward to leaving here in a few short months. I can honestly say that you get what you pay for if you are looking for a cost savings living situation! Consider your decision carefully....
