Nice place to live

It's obvious the person who complained about being sued by the management just couldn't be bothered to do what is generally expected of most tenants and pay in a timely fashion. Rent at Pine Valley is due the first day of every month, but they'll give you until 8 AM of the sixth before they tack on a late fee. I think that's pretty generous. I've NEVER been sued by Pine Valley or been slapped with a late fee -- and I rarely turn in rent by the first.

Chalet tenants get one free covered parking space. My space is steps away from my front door, which is incredibly convenient, although occasionally I have a problem with unknowing visitors swiping my spot while I'm away. There really should be a "reserved" sign somewhere on the structure. Maintenance is prompt and manages to address every concern that I have -- when I complained that the cabinets were ugly and asked for a cover-up paint job, maintenance actually went one step above my request and installed new wooden ones. My front door was also replaced with a tighter-fitting one after I complained about the insects that were crawling in through it. Box elder bugs were a major issue for a couple months in the early spring, but management had the trees sprayed and my apartment treated, and I haven't seen them since. I do see a few little insects here and there these days, but I guess one can't ever have a completely bug-proof apartment.

The only things I don't like about this place are the garbage setup (you have to go outdoors and walk a bit to throw away a trash bag) and the laundry ($1.25 per load, and chalet residents have to go to another building -- but non-chalet residents won't have this problem). Oh, and noise -- walls are kind of thin, but Pine Valley residents as a whole tend to be pretty quiet people. Granted, there are exceptions. One last trifling thing -- the maintenance guy, Junior, is kind of an -------. He does his job, which is all anyone can ask for, but don't expect service with a smile.

There is an AATA stop right outside -- the
route goes to the umich campus but it isn't free. All in all, I think I'm getting a pretty good deal -- my visitors often guess that I pay hundreds more than I actually do.
