Not worth it

My wife and I lived at Signature Club for 3 years. To start with something positive, the maintenace staff is great. Those guys are professional, on time, and always get the job done.

That was the only thing we really liked about Signature Club. The parking situation is terrible. If you get home after 6pm, be prepared to park out on the street and walk 200 yards to your apartment on the icy sidewalks. They won't let you use a second carport if you have a 2 bedroom apartment -- even if one is vacant for a long period of time. The drainage problem throughout the complex is really bad. When it rains, water pools on the sidewalks and stays for a couple of days. Don't get a ground floor unit, we met several people that actually had water leak into their sliding door.

Our bigget complaint is the staff not honoring the things they told us when we moved in. We were told that we could paint a wall and not be charge for it when we moved out as long as the color was not a deep red. We painted the wall a light blue color and when we moved out, they made us pay a bunch of money to repaint. They also tried to charge us for leaving a bookshelf behind that was already in the apartment when we moved in. The office seems to have a high staff turnover and chances are, if someone tells you something will be OK, they won't be working there when you move out, so get everything in writing! The expressway noise is also a problem. Any of the units bordering the expressway side of the complex are pretty noisy, you can really hear the trucks going up and down I-94 at night. We didn't think it would be a problem when we looked at the apartment, but at night when it's quiet -- the noise is really annoying.

Overall, it wasn't a completely miserable experience, but if we could have a do-over, we would definitely choose a different place.

The assessment here is riddled with inaccuracies. To begin with, one carport is included with the rent, FREE. Additional carports are available for a reasonable fee, $30 per month.
Second, our painting policy has always been that if you paint, you must paint it back to white when you leave. Our staff here doesn't turn over quickly--most of us have been here for about three years and this has always been the case.
Finally, we provide our residents with a move-in checklist to note any problems in the apartment. No "bookshelf" was mentioned in this resident's move-in assessment, and so we charged the usual fee for removing trash from an apartment.

At Signature Club, we strive to provide great customer service. Just as important, we strive to be fair and we believe that we have done so.

Those of you looking for an apartment know that the property manager will tell you what you want to hear to get you to sign the lease. Please believe me, my review is 100% accurate. I can't imagine how SignatureClubApartments, in their review above, are in a position to state that my assessment is inaccurate. After we moved in, the property manager and our leasing rep were both replaced AND the entire place changed ownership. Unfortunately, when we received our bill loaded with frivolous charges, all of the people that had made promises to us had disappeard into thin air. I really wouldn't risk it with this place. I lived in Ann Arbor through 8 years of school at UofM and I can say from experience that there are many better options in town.

Such as? Please, if you are unhappy with where you live and you enjoyed other places better, tell us what those places were. We are looking at these ratings b/c we are looking for safe, clean and nice places to live, so if you know of one, if you had a good experience somewhere it'd nice to hear about it.
