There's good and bad

I have lived here since last summer. I moved here because the rent was cheap for Ann Arbor and they accept large dogs. I have not really had any major maintenance problems. The few I had seemed to happen after hours and they always called or came out if it was needed. I live on the 1st floor and I don't hear anything coming from upstairs. I do hear people in the hallways and tromping up and down the stairs. There is also a little yappy dog down the hall that barks constantly. I always pick up my dog poop, but I see other people that don't. This makes me angry because people that don't have dogs think that everyone just lets their dogs ---- all over the place and don't pick it up.
I have heard of cars getting broken into, but so far that hasn't happened to me yet. As for safety, I don't really feel safe here, but I have a large dog that wouldn't let some strange creep get anywhere near me. He is the most gentle sweet dog there is but he would defend me to his death. I did have an incident a couple of weeks ago. I took my dog out to pee at 6am, When we came out of the apartment my dog started growling and barking which is not like him at all. As we got closer to the door he charged at the stairwell. There was a young guy dressed in all black with a black hood pulled down over his face. I had not seen him before and did not think he belonged in the building. We went back in and called the police. They came right away and took the guy on drug posession. I feel sone safety because of the dog, but if I didn't have him I think I would be constantly on guard being on the ground floor. Which is why I took out renters insurance.
If you need a cheap place to live in Ann Arbor this is it. It has it's good and bad points.
