Not so bad

I lived there for 4 years, and never really had a problem. Any problems I did encounter were fixed fairly quickly by maintenence. I did know some people that had problems with getting maintenence out to their apartments, or getting them to solve the problem- but I found that politeness and courtesy go a long way to ensuring that your requests are met.
Also, there was some noise, however I think that is to be expected in an apartment complex.
I found the staff to be helpful whenever I had a question. I didn't always get the answer I wanted (the clubhouse was not for resident use apparently), but that doesn't change the fact that they were nice about it.
I felt safe and secure to take walks in the late evening. Some of the lighting needed to be replaced, but there was enough working that it didn't seem dangerous.
The neighbors were friendly, a couple people I knew had been residents for over 10 years, obviously they liked the place.
We did run into a problem with ants summer/fall 2003. They were difficult, but not impossible to get rid of, and we did have an exterminator come out. I'd rather have the inconvenience of an exterminator coming out every month than to have a pest problem. In general there are people who aren't the best of housekeepers- and they attract ants- it's just a fact. I never saw any cockroaches or mice/rats.
Overall, I do recommend Spicetree. If I still lived in Ann Arbor I would likely live there.
