CRIME/BAD NEIGHBORHOOD! RUN AWAY

If you want to move out with the same stuff you moved in with, DO NOT MOVE TO SPICETREE! The apartment itself was old and run down, carpet was replaced and they left a mess. Maintenance was friendly and timely, and office staff was helpful, but the manager was a b-itch! Totally impersonal, rude and not in the least sympathetic.
About the crime. During the 9 months I spent there (I moved out 3 months before my lease ended and continued to pay rent, that's how bad I wanted out of there) 4 girls had been mugged at gunpoint at Spicetree and surrounding complexes, 5 cars were stolen in one night from Spicetree and surrounding complexes (mine included!) and after the auto thefts, at least 4 more cars were smashed up and robbed in the months following.
When the muggings occurred, fliers went out to residents about nighttime safety. When I reported that my car had been stolen (and the other cars were confirmed by both police and office staff) the manager had nothing to say, no apologies, and no warnings were put out to residents and lighting in the lots was barely adequate.
Prior to my moving in, there were no locks on outside access doors to the apartments so solicitors were a problem, but now it's just the noisy neighbors who leave garbage in the halls.
There was a leak in the roof right outside our apartment door that soaked the carpet in heavy rains and snows...when you looked up, you could actually see the sky! ...It was never fixed. All cabinets in the entire apartment were sticky and warped, window frames were separating from walls, heat was let out (thankfully it was included in rent or we would have paid well over $200/month). When we moved in, our refrigerater was broken and didnt even close all the way. After several complaints they replaced it.
Overall, the clubhouse looks nice and the model apartment they show you looks great, but you move in and it looks like it was built in the 70's and not much updating had been done since. You could even see the woodpaneling in the "den" (actually a tiny closet of a room) that had been sloppily painted over that looked like it came from 30 years ago.
If you're looking for someplace cheap to live, that's about all you're going to get from Spicetree...cheap rent. Be warned: You barely get what you pay for.

I also forgot to mention the loiterers in the parking lot and loud young men who yell at young ladies as they walk thru the lot and make many females feel uncomfortable.

You get what you pay for. The apartments were built in the 70s but I guarantee residents would rather deal with old cabinets than a rent increase to update them.
