Absolutely Revolting - I'm not exaggerating; this place is criminally bad

This was the first apartment complex I lived in and in hindsight it was absolutely the worst experience imaginable.
The highlights:
Carpet of orange and black mold growing on the floor of the shower. This had simply been painted over - literally with paint on the shower floor - by the maintenance crew before I moved in. As the year progressed, the pain flaked off, revealing the disgusting mold.
The air conditioner barely worked. It spewed out dust because the filter was filthy - it looked like it had hadn't been cleaned in over a decade. We would leave it running all day during the summer and the apartment was still unbearably hot.
Smells like garbage and smoke. People smoke in the stairwells and the smell permeates all apartments near the door. The garbage rooms on each floor smell horrific.
The noise. The windows are sealed so poorly that wind noise howls through them at night. You can feel a stream of cold air flowing into the room in the winter time. The noise from South U keps me up several nights a week as well. And like everyone else said, you can hear your neighbors' music as if it were playing on your own stereo.
No fan in the bathroom. We used to have to turn on the shower to drown out the noise of taking a crap in the bathroom. Otherwise, everyone in the apartment could hear every fart and plop. Also, there was no air circulation in the bathroom. Showers filled it with condensation, and any smells lingered for hours.
The drop ceiling. Even with the windows closed, they leaked so much air that a strong gust of wind would send the drop ceiling tiles shaking, droping dust all over _everything_ in the apartment. When the windows were open, the tiles would literally get dislodged to the point where they fell out of the ceiling a few times.
The staff. They were obnoxious. They would actually enter your apartment unannounced to show it to people. You would wake up hearing a key in your door, and you could listen to some stranger having a conversation with the staff _in_ your apartment as you laid in bed some mornings.
Elevators - they were small and dilapidated and usually had a decent amount of graffiti.
Expensive - this place is extremely expensive, especially when you consider that you don't get a washer/dryer in your unit, that you get no parking, and the exceptionally poor quality of everything.
Asbestos - from the waiver on the lease it certainly sounds like this place is riddled with the stuff.
Anyone who claims these apartments are anything other than terrible is flat out lying. Unfortunately, most new students probably won't see this review and will get suckered into living here just as I did several years back. I would live to see a class action lawsuit filed against these criminals.
