Much better places to live in A2

I lived here during the 2003-2004 (soph) school year, and just recently found this site so I felt I should post a review. For the size, the price is outrageous. We were really pressured into a lease, and as four first year students from small towns, we thought it was a good deal because of the location. WRONG! We had a lot of problems with getting any repairs done while we lived there, even after the shower door fell off on top my room mate and cut her arm open pretty badly. When we moved out, we got $19 back on our $1300 deposit, and when we asked for a breakdown of the charges, they didn't have one. We kept the apartment in very good shape, and their reasoning for the charges were that they had to vacuum it and take some tape off the walls. When I finally got a breakdown of the charges three months later, we were charged $50 per piece of tape taken off the walls and $300 per room (living room and 2 bedrooms) for vacuuming. Also- the dryers were terrible and even with a very small load of clothes it took two cycles. All in all, this place sucks the money out of you.

If anyone knows the Law, you know we can't do that and if the charges were false, they could have written a simple note and we would have had to go to court to keep their money. Bottom line is this person is not telling you the real story. Very Sad indeed!!! Call us at 734-761-2680 if you have any questions or visit our website at www.universitytowers-mi.com

bottom line is many undergrads who are paying their way through college don't have the money or time to file pro se in civil court or pay a lawyer for advice on whether or not an apartment complex can do this. i think it's safe to say that utowers has a history of dishonesty and overcharging based on personal experience and the posted experiences of others. i lived in the building a couple years ago and had the same thing happen where the charges were outrageous and i received back a very small percentage of my security deposit because of their "cleaning." as a law student, i do know some of the law and know that there are many "discretionary" clauses in leases that allow the landlord to keep whatever amount of the security deposit they deem fit. Written a simple note? I had to ask multiple times a day after submitting a maintenance request to get even the smallest thing fixed when i lived there. i'm pretty sure said simple notes would go right through the shredder with the maintenance requests.
dont call or visit the website, just find a place to live in ann arbor that isn't a hole.

I'm positive the employees at U Towers don't know "the Law" except how to work around it. The lease contract is full of holes and they expect students to feel like "they won't do any damage" until they get no security deposit back except a free bubble tea on the house. I sure wish I owned U Towers, no work or maintenance necessary, and all the money I could ask for from poor unsuspecting students!!
