Before I moved in Village Green of Ann Arbor, during the walk through, the office staff assured me all the maintenance issues would be resolved. Dishwasher, refrigerator, garbage disposal, security alarm, closet, washer/dryer, bathroom etc. I allowed them 3 weeks to finish and the day I moved, nothing had been touched in 3 weeks.
I noted all the maintenance issues on my move in sheet. After 1 month, none of the issues had been resolved, a maintenance person never even stopped by to inspect what I had reported. I wrote a second notice, this time someone came out but did not fix anything. I waited a month and a half and wrote a third notice. Only after the garbage disposal went up in smoke did they replace it. Two months later the refrigerator compressor failed (sounds like pipe rattling inside another pipe) but was not replaced until I made repeated calls. They replaced it with a loud old unit that the staff called "new." I can continue with maintenance issues but that would leave me no time to talk about the office staff.
The office staff treated me as if I was ignorant. When I requested maintenance or reported something dangerous, they would say "I'll send someone out" or lie to me and say someone is already taking care of it. When I became tired of dealing with the office staff, I hired a lawyer.
I wasn't trying to "bug" the office staff or request maintenance that did not need doing. I just wanted the apartment to be kept up with a reasonable standard. I wanted to be treated with respect and honesty. The "new" fridge is a lot better than the one that did not work but it's still loud. If you can't replace the dishwasher, fine!!! But lower my rent, I'll buy one myself.
One of the main reasons I moved in was the security. A gated community with security alarms in each apt. The gates are never closed, they only work 2 months out of the year and it causes chaos when they do work because no one remembers their gate card ($25 dollar deposit, my first one didn't work, I had to return it) The default code is *---- which can be typed into the keypad if it works. During my stay a string of car thefts occurred because the thieves can drive in and shop at leisure.
Well at least you have a security alarm... Nope, it doesn't work either...
Should I go on' Honest, friendly, luxury... I think not, that doesn't work either. -------

P.S. Management was also kind enough to send a collection agency after me on a bogus paper the altered that had my signature on it. They threatened to ruin my credit and I would never be able to rent from them or the parent company... real nice. I'll never rent from VG or the parent company again. My current employer is ending the lease in one of their complexes base on my recommendations and I urge you to do as well.
