Take The Good With The Bad.

Years at this apartment: 2007 - 2008
I moved in August of 2007. I have had my share of problems while living here. When I first moved in there was water damage in my living room which took me over a month to be repaired since the office had to get a contractor to fix a water leak in my roof. Where the leak was in the corner of my living room the carpet is not securely installed and there are stains where the carpet should have been replaced, but they just used a carpet cleaner that didn't pick everything up. In many of the rooms in my apartment the carpet is not flush to the walls, in fact there are places where it as least a half inch away from the wall.
There is a draft in my bedroom window and my patio sliding door. I have had maintenance look at the windows twice and they can't find the leaky sealant. Of course they never suggest that they just need to be replaced....because both do. They just tell me to get weatherguard.
In the summer time I know I am going to have a problem with rolliepollies and earwigs. I had a problem when I first moved in and insect guy came a sprayed twice, but as it got colder the bugs diappeared. I will have to wait and see when it gets warm again.
The one thing I have the biggest problem with is with how thin the walls are. If my neighbor and I are in the our bedrooms at the same time I can hear his entire coversation on the phone as if I were in the room with him, he also has a cronic problem with pornopraphy. If your ever in the same room as your neighbor and they have company over. . . .the tv is on. . . .the radio is on. . .you will hear everything.
On the other side I love my apartments layout. It fits me so well and is completely comfortable. The bedrooms are good size. I have a large storage room that I converted into a small office. I love, love, love my fireplace. I love having my own laundry room. I love my little foyer when I first walk in the door. I like the close proximity of I-75 in front of and behind my apartment. It is convienant for me to get to work and to school at OU.
No apartment is perfect and I have had my share of bad ones. I am willing to put up with and work around the things I dislike for the things that I do like. I am not fond of the price, thinness of the walls, the maintenance or their worksmanship, and the insects. But, I love my apartment, the layout, and its ammenities. I am not sure if I will be renewing my lease next year, that will be detirmined by the insects, how busy it may be in the complex during the summer, and if I find something in the area with a better price and the same ammenities. But, more than likely I will be renewing and get the windows, sliding door, and carpet replaced. . . .but, more than likely i will find and work my way around it.
You gotta take the good for the bad and decide what you can live with, but that is going to be in any apartment building or neighborhood.
