5 year tenant moving out of state... rating to provide real information for potentials

Years at this apartment: 2003 - 2008
I have lived here for 5 years and recommend these apartments. Though at first there were some management disappointments, mostly due to changeovers, the current people have been here awhile now and have been really helpful and nice to me, they have supported my requests and have been very flexible.
The actual units are new, very large and very nice. Anyone can see that. Some basement units had moisture problems causing mold/mildew issues, but I saw them being completely stripped and refitted with all new everything by professional teams (don't know who)this spring.
The complex is situated a little too close to I-75's noise for me, but I-75 is extremely convenient, it is not so bad in summer when the leaves are a buffer, but I expect it is a matter of what you think of background noise. My apartment is in the back of the complex which runs parallel to I-75.
Though no one can expect cohabitants to be totally great, my current neighbors have been. The majority of my initial issues related to actual tenants the first year. In the beginning some neighbors were intolerable, but they moved on to everyones relief. Too much noise and illegal behavior is never appreciated and very disruptive to small community members. Now we have a good mix of ages and people who are mostly considerate of one another.
I have a cat who loves our balcony and other people here have dogs... I see them walking and everyone seems very happy. Although I admit I DO NOT like seeing, smelling or stepping over dog droppings left by some "doggy parents" who don't follow the rules.
The lawns, pool (not sure about that hot tub), and maintenance are all good. The Lodge is very nice (I have been to several complex parties over the years there) and we have a nice fitness center. There is a little business office I've used for faxing, printing, etc. The office staff signs for our packages making it easy to pick-up on the way home without having to make the trip to the post office with that little yellow slip. Everyones favorite, Doug, has been here since before I arrived, always with a smile and a ready wave, he handles the curb trash service, and I have seen him doing every sort of kindness for us.
Last but not least, parking in these five years has been a 'comes and goes' problem. If alot of people have roommates then there are too many cars. I have a garage for my car, they are not attached to the building and sit on asphalt, but a garage is a guaranteed parking spot, so I have been pretty happy. And not having to scrape snow off my car in winter is great! Snow removal in the parking areas can be an issue in the early mornings, but they have them passable by afternoon (snow is one of my peeves, not a winter lover). Even though the parking lots currently have lighting issues, which is why I gave a low rating on the safety,(cheap original fixtures)they will likely address this soon as they are working in our hallways now(which they enclosed with doors this spring).
I wish people reviewing apartments in the state I'm moving to would be more helpful. In my search these last 2 months I've found that the only reviews are made by mad and disgrunteld people, which does not provide an accurate description, with details of the pros and cons, information to use in a search, that is what this is supposed to help with.
Anyway, I hope this helps other people. I think if you talk to the group in the office about your concerns, they will want to help you too, resident or not.
